Great keyboard, quite substantial. much better than the cover keyboard i was using. most notable is the ability to use in one's lap, much more comfortable. Pairing is simple, experienced no problems. overall a great buy.

So far I really like the Brydge keyboard, it lets me set the Surface on my lap without fear of it falling over. It is a bit heavy but not too much, the fit and finish seems great

I love the tablet ability of the surface but found most of the time I was getting annoyed with having to use the kickstand with the keyboard.

After recently purchasing a Surface Pro 2017 I decided to buy the Brydge keyboard after being sold on the idea of converting my Surface Pro to a clamshell laptop that I could use easily on my lap. Unfortunately the reality of the Brydge hasn't met the expectation. Pros * The keyboard is sturdy, well designed and engineered, and performs well. Cons * The hinge clamps pinch the Surface Pro's screen leading to light bleed on the left corner and also appear to have marked/dented the right side of the Surface's casing. I have used the correct shims for the Surface Pro 4/2017 from the start. * The hinges are very stiff and in my opinion concentrate too much pressure on the Surface Pro's glass front. I understand Brydge have tested extensively, but I'm still waiting for the screen to crack when i close it. * Somehow managed to get some grit between the top of the surface and the Brydge keyboard which then rubbed together in my bag and chipped the edge of the Surface's screen. Not really Brydge's fault, but annoying and upsetting none the less. Unfortunately I won't be using the Brydge going forward, which is a shame as I think once these issues are resolved it will be an excellent solution, but I'm not willing to risk damage to my Surface Pro.

I had been using my Surface for about a year and was quite pleased with it. Fast, compact and light. But the Brydge 12.3 makes even more functional. It is actually useable as a true laptop. Kickstands are fine for tables, knees.. not so much. Backliit keys are great for low light conditions and battery life is phenomenal.

Three pesky issues block a 5-star rating for this keyboard, although it is a vast improvement over the native KB, which I would rate a 2 and the premium native KB, which I would rate a 3. Issue 1: Would love to see floating keys on the keyboard (like Logitech), rather than stamped cut-outs in the faceplate to capture keys. Every stroke you encounter the hard edge of the cut-out. Issue 2: Would also love to see the détente for "opening" the keyboard on the sides and front. With the heft of the Surface Pro 4 and the resistance of the strong Brydge hinges, it is awkward at best to open a closed unit. Locating the détente about 1/3 aft of the leading edge along the side would provide amore intuitive and comfortable way to open the assembly. Issue 3: Bluetooth can be a little wonky with the touchpad. A USB radio dongle would smooth this issue out, but it is manageable if you adjust your pointer speed just right.
