“Love this backpack ! I’m in barber college right now and I was usually lugging around a packed backpack with my barber case in one hand and mirror in the other. “As a designer of both material and non-material products and services. - I provide a strong critique. The backpack as an overall concept is 5 stars. However, the execution of this bag is 3 1/2 to 4 stars. 1.The outer material is aesthetically appealing yet not as durable or resilient as needed. This means the beauty of the bag on the outside is easily blemished with basic wear. Though there are materials to choose from that would allow for a more pleasant wear and tear that over time still holds it’s look. The attempt to have a ‘soft’ hard shell on the outside was nice, however, it would have benefitted the user to have a material that holds the shape, but flexes back and forth so as to be in more flow. The shell tends to fold, bend and the material holds the fold which makes it look used and loose the shape and visual appeal. 2. The backpack straps are single stitched, which saves on production but loses on the feel of safety when on your back. This is where no shortcuts should be taken, stitch well and thoroughly and provide straps that make the user feel like their load is secure. 3. The pockets and placement are on point. Clipper holding stations with the covered flap was also executed well. However, the pockets for the clipper guards is cheap webbing and mine came unstitched in the first week of use. (And I was using only blades up to #4 Andis) 4. The straps which secure the blades/machines do not hold well. I would of used a more durable material for the straps which has a stronger grip when you tighten. A softer material was chosen so it tend to slip with slight movement. 5. Pricing and support is also 4 stars. This bag even with the design upgrades needs to stay under $200. I would go as far as to say lifetime warranty (similar to Osprey) so that customers are long term lifers. All in all I’m happy and proud to have a bag from one of my crafts. And it does make a difference to show up with this bag looking professional. The shortcuts that were taken in this design are what leaves the market open for a better bag. It left me thinking I could design a better bag. How about open-sourcing the design? That’s the future. Get a collaborative of barbers to design the next one. Open value network where everyone who offers a design principle gets value from the product. That will be the approach which shadows the current central small group ownership. The future is here and ByApptOnly will benefit to catch the wave of open-source cooperative enterprises. That’s where my money and my networks money will be going in the future. #BarbersUnite #NoKingBarbers #SidebySideNotOnTopAndOnBottom #CooperationOverDomination”
