“My client picked out a set of legs specifically from Carolina Leg Co. and the process of ordering them and getting them to my shop was painless. The quality of the turning and the wood was very good.
The only reason I did not give these a 5 star review was due to how the legs were assembled. The images of them on their site made it look like it was made from laminating multiple wide boards together to get the 5x5 turning square. Doing it like this would give you the "Circle pattern" on either side of the blank (especially with knotty pine) But only 1 of the three legs was made with 4 planks. The other 3 were made from 12 individual square pieces that were laminated together. It does not change the shape or the strength of the leg but it drastically changes how the leg looks if you are using a stain. Thankfully my client wanted a heavy whitewash on them so you cant really tell. But has they wanted a stain only on the wood or just a clear coat, these would have been unacceptable.
My suggestion to Carolina Leg CO. would be to offer 2 versions where one is acceptable for paint and one would be for stain (4 or 5 boards laminated together rather than the 12 squares) and charge a bit of a premium if the customer wants the grain pattern to match.
So in closing, if you are going to be painting these legs or even ebonizing, in their current format, these legs are PERFECT. Just be warned that using stain might very will give you a grain pattern that you might not be happy with.”
Thanks for the feedback! We can always accommodate special requests for no additional charge. We have to use every piece of wood possible to keep our price as low as it is, otherwise we would throw away up to 30% of our lumber. Anytime a set is needed to match just let us know!
