“5/5 for the beautiful solid wood bed frame, 4/5 for the execution but it doesn't outweight how lovely this is. You can't get anything like this bedframe for this price. Even bed frames that are 2x the price are usually veneered. So for the value and quality of the build, this is solidly 5/5. The ash is beautiful - just be aware that this is real wood, not perfect veneered wood, so there are marks and some holes that have been filled with wood filler. I got lucky that the wood filled sides were all on the inside of the frame and not visible. The only issue I had was that while putting it together, one side of the headboard was slightly out of alignment with the slot that had be routed for it. I had to use a chisel to take ~3mm off the headboard tenon for it to fit. Otherwise, the construction was 5/5. Its also worth repeating that it is unfinished! It says it in the description. I used Minwax Polycrylic Matte to finish it, three coats and gently knocked down the grain after the first coat. Add your finish AFTER you assemble the pieces, or be careful not to get it on the mortises and tenons that fit together because they are already a tight fit without layers of finish (I had to really work to get some legs and rails together). Its still 1000x worth it for a solid ash bedframe at this price!! Its taller than an standard platform bed from Ikea or something, the frame plus a Leesa Sapira Hybrid mattress gets to 27" tall.”
“Love this bed. So easy to assemble. Good height - not too tall, not too short. I left it raw for now, but will probably rub on some stain/poly at a later date. This bed is incredibly sturdy - no movement, no creaks; a perfectly steady, solid bed.”
“Love the bed. I lived close to the shop so paid the guys a visit. Terrific owners and really like the bed. We have a Thuma bed as well…between the two I prefer the Upton.”
“I appreciate quality when choosing furniture. I am impressed when I stumble upon makers that offer solid wood furniture at a great price point. The craftsmen at Carolina Leg have figured out how to do just this. I recently purchased the Upton bed in King size. It is made of beautiful Ash hardwood and is designed to be strong and functional. The unfinished bed makes it a great way to match your existing furniture or what ever floats your boat and saves a ton of money. I am likely going to buy another for my guest room. Thanks Carolina Leg for a great product at a very fair price!”
“This is a very solid and nice bed. It’s a bit annoying that you have to finish it yourself but I used Rubio Monocoat 2c and wrapped it up in about 4 hours including cleaning and waterpopping. It might be a touch higher than most beds but I like that since we are tall. Best bed for the price for sure.”
“Beautiful bed, it sits a little higher than I thought it would but it's fine. What surprised me is that the wood seems to be raw, I will probably put a coat of poly on it to protect the wood. Overall I like it and would recommend it.”
“I have the Upton bed in full size. This bed is extremely sturdy, low profile, has great lines, all solid wood, and easy to put together. I finished with a satin finish to keep the original ash color. It came well packaged and is easily better than other beds at higher price points. Customer service was extremely responsive. I am not a woodworker but glad I came across Carolina Leg Company.”
“I purchased a King Sized Upton from platform bed. It’s amazing. The wood is solid, it’s beautifully crafted, and it will last a very long time. It’s much better quality than anything else at the price point.”
