but: I have already three pieces of Aran clothes, two cardigans and a sweater, all made of merino wool, I bought them several years ago, also online, I chose size L and this suits just fine, I have even washed the pieces in the washing machine at 30° C a few times and they are still very fine, no shrinking - I'm very satisfied with them,
the new cardigan is also size L, same producer, so I thought that I would be on the safe side - but actually nowadays size L is much bigger than the size L I bought several years ago, the knitting is also much lighter and looser than in the past and the sleeves are longer,
I washed the new cardigan before wearing it for the first time against the advice in the washing machine at 20° C... and the cardigan was even bigger afterwards - no shrinking at all, on the contrary,
I washed it again at 30° C in the machine and hoped for a bit of shrinking... and it worked, now it is a bit smaller again and it fits much better
