Get hooked on crochet with our beginner’s tutorial! Enjoy this relaxing craft as you get to grips with the simple skills you’ll need to stitch beautiful designs, with one of our craft experts on hand to guide you through the steps. This workshop provides a wonderful introduction to the world of crochet, perfect if you’re a complete beginner.

Through the course of the workshop, you’ll learn double stitch and treble stitch. You’ll also be shown how to create a chain, working in rows to create a tension square. You’ll have a craft kit included, ensuring you’ve got the yarn and hook you need. It’s a great opportunity to pick up techniques you can then put into practice when you move on to other patterns.

Throughout the tutorial, you will be able to ask any crochet questions you may have.

You’ll be sent a follow-up video afterwards to guide you in your own time.

This workshop is also available as a private workshop for group bookings of 5+.

Keeping everyone safe
At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

My teacher was Gina. You could see how passionate she was about crocheting and knitting. She was more than happy to answer all our questions when we asked. Highly recommend.

Wonderful class. Teacher was friendly, informative and patient. She kept pace for those who were able, but happily recapped any parts for those who needed more help. Would highly recommend for your first stitch into crochet!

I really enjoyed the session! The tutor was very responsive to questions in the chat and explained things clearly. She showed us different ways to do a slip knot and also left and right handed crochet. Would recommend the session!

The teacher was really friendly and very knowledgeable about crochet, but because she didn’t want to be too prescriptive about how to hold the crochet needle or yarn, she didn’t actually show us how to do that so as a complete beginner I had no idea how to do anything. I could do the slip knot to get the yarn on the needle, but my single crochets looked really different than her example and I tried to interrupt and ask questions about why but she didn’t seem to get the problem and didn’t help. Her movements were really fast and hard to follow. Maybe the recording will be helpful, but what I really wanted was to ask someone why my crochet was wrong and that’s why I booked the class, but I didn’t get that. We closed the zoom call after 45 mins because there was no point listening about double crochet when we couldn’t get the single right. It would have been better if she paused and made sure we were all ready before moving on.
