This is a fun activity in Manchester

Just a five-minute walk from Ancoats, discover pottery at the New Dawn Pottery studio in Manchester.

Perfect for complete beginners, this relaxed 2-hour wheel throwing class is the ideal choice if you've always wanted to learn to throw a pot on the wheel in a fun, supportive environment.

Experience the magic of turning a lump of clay into your own handmade piece of art. You'll throw under the guidance of one of our friendly local teachers, who has plenty of tips to share, and you'll come away with the foundational skills for making beautiful pots on the wheel.

Beyond the new skill, there's the calm — wheel throwing is genuinely meditative, and two hours of it is a proper reset. Step into this warm and welcoming studio and leave with your own handmade pottery.

There's space for 8 people per class, so everyone gets their own wheel and individual attention. It's ideal for date nights, birthdays, friends, or coming on your own to try something new in Manchester.

At the end of the session, choose your favourite pieces to be glazed and fired in our kiln for £7.50 each, with a wide range of glaze colours to pick from. Finished ceramics are food-safe and usually ready to collect within 4-6 weeks. We can post them to you if you can't get back to the studio.

Please note
- Please arrive on time — if you're late you may miss the demo.
- No liability is accepted for misuse of the studio space.

I really enjoyed this class which I gifted myself for my birthday. The teacher gave each of us individual attention and guidance as we went through the process on the wheel. She was friendly and knowledgeable. I loved the process of creation with my own hands and can't wait to see my final pot once fired and glazed soon.

What a great Christmas present this turned out to be. I went to the class on 24th June 2024, and the teacher was great. If only I could remember his name. He inspired me definitely as he was so supportive and attentive. He gave clear instructions and was so chilled out even with the amount of questions and mess I made. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone with an interest in pottery or without, as you may suprise yourself.

A fun and engaging session, thanks to Filipa who is a great tutor. My wife and I enjoyed it very much. All tools are provided and studio has ample parking around the area. The duration of the class allows a number of attempts and you are able to pick your best work at the end. I look forward to picking up my masterpiece!

I really enjoyed my class. The tutor Filipa explained things well and helped when I was having any troubles, which ensured I learnt and finished the class with some pieces to take home! I made four pieces in the 2 hr session. I went alone and didn't feel uncomfortable at any time. There were two other people and the max is 4 students.
