This is a fun activity in Stoke Newington, London

If you have always loved the principles and aesthetic of Kintsugi repair but haven't had the time to learn or haven't known where to begin, this workshop is for you! Kintsugi, the art of 'golden joinery', originated in Japan and has since been practised and taught for over 600 years. Embracing the tradition of highlighting imperfection instead of disguising it, traditional Kintsugi uses gold and lacquer to mend broken ceramic objects.

This specially designed two-hour taster session, taught in the heart of Stoke Newington, will have you better understanding Kintsugi fundamentals. After this session, you will come away with a beautiful mended object (or two!) which will make a gorgeous keepsake for yourself or a gift for someone you love.

Hosted at The Salvage Company studio, you will be taught by a trained historic crafts conservator with knowledge and experience in both Japanese lacquerware and Kintsugi repair methods. All materials will be supplied, including one piece of reclaimed stoneware or Japanese tea bowl. You can also bring along your own broken piece which we will assess together and then repair if time allows. Time to pull out Grandma's teacup and saucer that you accidentally broke 2 years ago and have been hiding ever since!

For this course, modern repair materials will be used in combination with historic materials for a stunning result. Kintsugi Repair kits will also be available for purchase so that you can continue the practise at home.

Please note:
- Items repaired in this workshop will not be food safe due to some of the quick-setting materials used and will be primarily for display only.
- Studio is ground floor and wheelchair accessible.
-Latecomers of more than 20 minutes will unfortunately not be able to participate in the workshop, and your booking will be forfeited. Please let us know if you are running late so that we can try to accommodate you.

We had a great experience with Cody for my partner's birthday. She showed us the techniques with care and patience, and gave us the context and history which we found really interesting and enjoyed hearing. I'm not a natural crafter but she gave me all the guidance I needed, and we both ended up with a beautiful bowl each to take home. Bonus points too for the coffee and the teacake!

This class was a birthday gift and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Cody was a brilliant teacher - she was patient, supportive and incredibly welcoming to all of us. The steps were clear and easy to follow. We were able to mend a white tea bowl (provided) which was a really beautiful piece by the end. The class felt mindful and was very relaxing. You feel transported into another world when you step into the cosy studio. I thoroughly recommend this class to anyone who is interested in thinking about getting into Kintsugi.

I booked this Kintsugi class as a birthday gift for a friend and we both really enjoyed it. Cody was a wonderful teacher, patient, friendly, and very easy to follow. We repaired a bowl that was provided, and I also had the chance to fix a small item of my own, which made it feel extra special. The session was relaxed, creative, and great fun. Such a lovely experience to share and a brilliant gift idea. I’d highly recommend it.
