This is a fun activity in Stoke Newington, London

If you have always loved the principles and aesthetic of Kintsugi repair but haven't had the time to learn or haven't known where to begin, this workshop is for you! Kintsugi, the art of 'golden joinery', originated in Japan and has since been practised and taught for over 600 years. Embracing the tradition of highlighting imperfection instead of disguising it, traditional Kintsugi uses gold and lacquer to mend broken ceramic objects.

This specially designed two-hour taster session, taught in the heart of Stoke Newington, will have you better understanding Kintsugi fundamentals. After this session, you will come away with a beautiful mended object (or two!) which will make a gorgeous keepsake for yourself or a gift for someone you love.

Hosted at The Salvage Company studio, you will be taught by a trained historic crafts conservator with knowledge and experience in both Japanese lacquerware and Kintsugi repair methods. All materials will be supplied, including one piece of reclaimed stoneware or Japanese tea bowl. You can also bring along your own broken piece which we will assess together and then repair if time allows. Time to pull out Grandma's teacup and saucer that you accidentally broke 2 years ago and have been hiding ever since!

For this course, modern repair materials will be used in combination with historic materials for a stunning result. Kintsugi Repair kits will also be available for purchase so that you can continue the practise at home.

Please note:
- Items repaired in this workshop will not be food safe due to some of the quick-setting materials used and will be primarily for display only.
- Studio is ground floor and wheelchair accessible.
-Latecomers of more than 20 minutes will unfortunately not be able to participate in the workshop, and your booking will be forfeited. Please let us know if you are running late so that we can try to accommodate you.

The class was brilliant! We had five people taking the class for a friend's birthday and it was lovely. Exactly what I expected. Cody was a patient teacher and spent time with us as a group and individually when needed. Would absolutely come back to do my own peice or buy one of her kits.

Code was an excellent teacher, demonstrated the technique well, no time pressure. It would have been good to have been able to purchase the glue & 'gold' individually to then be able to practice, I didn't need everything that was in the ' gift kit' Thank you

Loved the class. So much fun to put the puzzle pieces of broken pottery together. Most rewarding when it all comes together in the imperfect beauty it is meant to be. Learned quite a bit and now understand how and why it is done. Heidi is a delight and so patient with everyone. She has a true passion for ceramics and enjoys sharing her passion with others. What a fun evening! I will be back. ❤️

Thoroughly enjoyed the Kintsugi workshop. Everything you needed was provided and the tutor took their time to explain and show in enough detail to us what we needed to do. They were on hand to help throughout and were so welcoming and patient. Lovely small group so everyone got time with the tutor. I would 100% recommend and am already thinking of people to gift this to. Plus you get to take home what you create! Fab!
