This is a fun activity in Stoke Newington. , London

If you have always loved the principles and aesthetic of Kintsugi repair but haven't had the time to learn or haven't known where to begin, this workshop is for you! Kintsugi, the art of 'golden joinery', originated in Japan and has since been practised and taught for over 600 years. Embracing the tradition of highlighting imperfection instead of disguising it, traditional Kintsugi uses gold and lacquer to mend broken ceramic objects.

This specially designed two-hour taster session, taught in the heart of Stoke Newington, will have you better understanding Kintsugi fundamentals. After this session, you will come away with a beautiful mended object (or two!) which will make a gorgeous keepsake for yourself or a gift for someone you love.

Hosted at The Salvage Company studio, you will be taught by a trained historic crafts conservator with knowledge and experience in both Japanese lacquerware and Kintsugi repair methods. All materials will be supplied, including one piece of reclaimed stoneware or Japanese tea bowl. You can also bring along your own broken piece which we will assess together and then repair if time allows. Time to pull out Grandma's teacup and saucer that you accidentally broke 2 years ago and have been hiding ever since!

For this course, modern repair materials will be used in combination with historic materials for a stunning result. Kintsugi Repair kits will also be available for purchase so that you can continue the practise at home.

Please note:
- Items repaired in this workshop will not be food safe due to some of the quick-setting materials used and will be primarily for display only.
- Studio is ground floor and wheelchair accessible.
-Latecomers of more than 20 minutes will unfortunately not be able to participate in the workshop, and your booking will be forfeited. Please let us know if you are running late so that we can try to accommodate you.

We had Sunday 13 in our calendars so didn’t manage to make the session. Is it possible to reschedule?

This was a gift from my daughters, who also attended the workshop with me. The teacher Cordy was excellent. Her passion for restoration history shines through as she sets the scene for the workshop. It's not just about the broken pieces of ceramics we were putting back together. It's a message that broken things can become more beautiful than they were even with cracks and scars.

Cody was incredible. A very calming presence and a great and gentle teacher! This was something new for me and my partner to try out and Cody made it approachable and fun. She shared the history of Kintsugi and walked us through each step. So relaxing and engaging (both the art and the teacher - Cody!) can’t say enough good things about the class! Give it a try! Thank you!

Amazing experience. Really clearly and expertly communicated step by step instructions. A lovely environment to work in. I’ve learned a skill that I can use beyond the workshop. Probably one of the best workshops I’ve been on in London. Highly recommended!

Cody made us feel so welcome on the day, helping us get settled before we started and being attentive throughout when we needed advice. I loved how she explained the history of the technique and how she had prepared all the materials needed before the class so we had the maximum time possible to work on our pieces which I valued.
