This is a fun activity in Stoke Newington. , London

If you have always loved the principles and aesthetic of Kintsugi repair but haven't had the time to learn or haven't known where to begin, this workshop is for you! Kintsugi, the art of 'golden joinery', originated in Japan and has since been practised and taught for over 600 years. Embracing the tradition of highlighting imperfection instead of disguising it, traditional Kintsugi uses gold and lacquer to mend broken ceramic objects.

This specially designed two-hour taster session, taught in the heart of Stoke Newington, will have you better understanding Kintsugi fundamentals. After this session, you will come away with a beautiful mended object (or two!) which will make a gorgeous keepsake for yourself or a gift for someone you love.

Hosted at The Salvage Company studio, you will be taught by a trained historic crafts conservator with knowledge and experience in both Japanese lacquerware and Kintsugi repair methods. All materials will be supplied, including one piece of reclaimed stoneware or Japanese tea bowl. You can also bring along your own broken piece which we will assess together and then repair if time allows. Time to pull out Grandma's teacup and saucer that you accidentally broke 2 years ago and have been hiding ever since!

For this course, modern repair materials will be used in combination with historic materials for a stunning result. Kintsugi Repair kits will also be available for purchase so that you can continue the practise at home.

Please note:
- Items repaired in this workshop will not be food safe due to some of the quick-setting materials used and will be primarily for display only.
- Studio is ground floor and wheelchair accessible.
-Latecomers of more than 20 minutes will unfortunately not be able to participate in the workshop, and your booking will be forfeited. Please let us know if you are running late so that we can try to accommodate you.

Cody was such an excellent teacher; very gentle and very informative of not only the mechanics of kintsugi but so as its history and its modernisation. Would recommend to anyone who seeks to try something different and informative!

Cody was a great teacher and put us all at ease. She explained the process really clearly and gave some helpful tips along the way. There was a lovely atmosphere in the class and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I’m really pleased with my bowl and will display it proudly.

I booked this class with my mum and sister for my sister’s 25th birthday - Cody was lovely and a wonderful teacher, going through the history and walking us through each step with great detail to ensure we were doing the right thing. It was such a pleasant experience and we enjoyed the small class chatting to the others attending as well. The space was so cosy and peaceful too! The birthday girl was even able to bring her own broken pieces with her and it was so satisfying to finally fix a lovely bowl of hers that broke in her luggage! Will definitely come again with perhaps the intermediate classes (to come)!

Great class. The teacher was very nice and patient. She explained the process clearly and went through all the steps and I didn't feel rushed. The class size was small which was good. Very pleased with my kintsugi bowl!
