This is a fun activity in Edinburgh

Design and make your very own Copper A6 pocket book or the larger A5 Journal.

In this class, you will learn the practical skills needed to create a copper-fronted journal.

You'll be guided through the process of embossing and ageing the copper and thereafter bind the paper using a simple Japanese ‘stab’ binding technique, allowing it to be opened completely flat - perfect for note-taking and sketching.

Don't worry if you're a beginner - this workshop is designed for those with a desire to create for themselves. You'll learn how to bind the pages (180 gsm ivory paper stock), create hardcovers from reclaimed copper and leather (Vegan leatherette available), sew paper, and handle various materials, tools, and adhesives.

Experience the ancient art of metalwork and the craft of bookbinding, developing hand skills and creativity along the way.

The atmosphere in the studio will be warm and welcoming, with plenty of refreshments to keep you energised.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have not only gained new skills and confidence but also have your journal to take home. It's the perfect opportunity for book lovers, artists, and writers looking to delve into a rich and versatile craft.

Had an amazing day with Will and our wee class. Just three of us so we had loads of help and time to chat as we worked. Loved learning about the history as we went through each step. And now I have a fabulous notebook to grace my D&D notes forever! Thank you

Great class - learned loads, covered a lot of ground, and throughout was supported really well by Will, who is a first rate tutor. Ended up with a notebook I'll cherish. Would highly recommend this class.

Will is super friendly, relaxed and knowledgeable. I came to the class with a bit of an 'out of the box' request and he handled this with enthusiasm, both before and during the class. He really is very skilled at what he does, but at the same time is encouraging and makes you feel like you are not a novice. I would do this class again, and again. The finished product is wonderful and learning all the steps of the process was very helpful.

Will was an excellent teacher giving a history of book binding with comparisons to modern techniques. He explained the process very well and when we started on our project he made extra effort to ensure that we took the time to produce a good quality book cover. Giving guidance as our particular projects progressed led to a result that would not have been achievable with a less diligent teacher. Once the embossed copper covers were completed Will ensured that we properly bound the books and the results were spectacular.
