This is a fun activity in Edinburgh

** I’m very flexible on dates, so if you’ve a group of two or more you’re most welcome to book a “private class”. as long as the desired date have have no other attendees signed in. (please give a few alternatives)

Most classes now start at 10am. **

Design and make your very own Copper A6 pocket book or the larger A5 Journal.

In this class, you will learn the practical skills needed to create a copper-fronted journal.

You'll be guided through the process of embossing and ageing the copper and thereafter bind the paper using a simple Japanese ‘stab’ binding technique, allowing it to be opened completely flat - perfect for note-taking and sketching.

Don't worry if you're a beginner - this workshop is designed for those with a desire to create for themselves. You'll learn how to bind the pages (180 gsm ivory paper stock), create hardcovers from reclaimed copper and leather (Vegan leatherette available), sew paper, and handle various materials, tools, and adhesives.

Experience the ancient art of metalwork and the craft of bookbinding, developing hand skills and creativity along the way.

The atmosphere in the studio will be warm and welcoming, with plenty of refreshments to keep you energised.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have not only gained new skills and confidence but also have your journal to take home. It's the perfect opportunity for book lovers, artists, and writers looking to delve into a rich and versatile craft.

This workshop A Bookbinding Class That Won My Heart I can’t recommend this bookbinding workshop enough. Not only did he take the time to share the history of bookbinding (and a delicious lunch!), but he walked me through the entire process step-by-step so I could really understand it, which mattered a lot to me since this is something I want to bring back home and share with others. He customized the class to fit how I learn, patiently guiding me through each step. I left with more journals than I’d planned to make because I fell in love with the whole experience, not just his beautiful artwork and craftsmanship, but with bookbinding itself. If you’re looking for a warm, hands-on class taught by someone who clearly loves what he does, this is it.

I had a lovely time with Will during this class. I had designed the picture a few days beforehand and Will scaled it. I wasn’t fully satisfied with my design but it turned out better on the metal, and it wasn’t as hard as I thought and I’m happy that I got to learn a bit about the history of metal working. He told me he mostly get locals coming but as a tourist I also recommend taking a day of your travels to do a class like this. It’s good spent time and you get to take something with you to define your stay

Honestly, a brilliant gift as the course was just fantastic. Will, the teacher, is a natural and guided us with patience, humour and lots of little history lessons. At times it was like watching alchemy and we were also incredibly pleased with the end results. This is a fantastic idea for a gift experience, oh and lunch was included. Our ages ranged from 13 to 56 and we all.loved it. Buy the course, you won't regret it.

My daughter (13) and I had a really fantastic day with Will. It was very chilled, he was an excellent teacher, and we're over the moon with our books. They look amazing, despite us being absolute beginners with all of the skills involved. Would definitely recommend.

This was truly an amazing and unique class. Will was a terrific host and guide—seriously the best. With his care, passion, and approachable personality, he made the entire experience better than I could have ever imagined. My son, who is like most teenage boys in respect to attitude and emotions, thought it was the best thing we’ve done on vacation and can’t stop talking about it. The class really does take about six hours. That’s because you are crafting by a hand a one of a kind item using artistry and not just assembling a premade product. I would highly recommend this activity and would do it again. Six stars out of five!

Had an amazing day with Will and our wee class. Just three of us so we had loads of help and time to chat as we worked. Loved learning about the history as we went through each step. And now I have a fabulous notebook to grace my D&D notes forever! Thank you
