Unlock the art of golden repair in Manchester with our enchanting Kintsugi workshop at Expo Lounge in Didsbury

Join Manchester’s original and longest-running Kintsugi workshop for a relaxing afternoon of creativity at Expo Lounge in Didsbury!

Kintsugi is the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, highlighting its cracks rather than hiding them. The idea is simple but beautiful: something can be changed by its experiences and still be valued, celebrated and made beautiful again.

During this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn about the history and philosophy behind Kintsugi before breaking and rebuilding your own pottery. You’ll be guided through the process step by step, from carefully fitting the pieces back together to finishing the cracks with gold.

No previous experience is needed. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, with plenty of support throughout. Come alone, bring a friend or book it as a thoughtful and unique date.

You’ll receive:

- Two pieces of pottery of your choice, to repair.
- All specialist materials and tools.
- Step-by-step guidance from an experienced artist.
- A beautiful gold finish.
- Protective packaging to take your work home safely.
- Two finished Kintsugi pieces to keep and display!

The process is creative, satisfying and naturally mindful. You can slow down, focus on working with your hands and enjoy turning something broken into something completely unique.

The workshop is led by The Creative Society Manchester, an award-winning independent arts organisation known for its welcoming cultural and heritage-inspired creative experiences.

Our home at Expo Lounge in Didsbury offers a cosy and informal setting. Food and drinks are available to purchase from the venue’s full menu throughout the session.

All materials are included and complete beginners are very welcome.

Join us and discover why this has become one of Manchester’s best-loved Kintsugi workshops.

“The teachers were brilliant and very patience. We all enjoyed the class. My only suggestion would be the practice piece was a small plate rather than a small bowl which was a bit fiddly”

“What an absolutely fabulous class! Loved learning about the history and culture of the art. The class just had everything. Brilliant teachers, lovely atmosphere, top quality materials, lots of fun smashing, the therapeutic element of reassembling and taking my finished piece away. One of the best classes I've ever been to. Thank you!”

“The hosts were great, although the experience was not much pleasant. Loud and noisy, was not time to relax. The glue fumes were really bad and not ventilation whatsoever, we ran out of glue and was a bit of a pain keep asking for more. Overall it was ok experience, I wouldn't do it again. Also for that price I would have expected a bit more.”
