This is a fun activity in Northampton

Looking for a creative break? Join us for a fun 2hr taster pottery class in Northamptonshire, where you’ll get your hands dirty learning the basics of throwing on the wheel or hand building. Whether you're completely new to pottery or just looking to try something different, this session is perfect for exploring your artistic side!

Once you’ve arrived and settled into the studio, you’ll get to decide whether you want to try out the wheel or dive into a hand-building project. Either way, we’ll guide you through the essentials, like centring the clay on the wheel or shaping it by hand, so you can get started on your very own creation.

You’ll have the chance to make up to two unique pieces and apply surface design techniques and choose glazes to make each piece individual. This is a relaxed, session, so there’s no pressure; just come along, have fun, and create something you’ll be proud of. It’s all about trying something new, learning a skill, and having a good time!

Notes
- It will not be possible to use the electric wheels if you are fitted with a pacemaker.
- shorter nails are better for wheel throwing, but we can work with nails you cant bear to trim

My husband and I had a great time at our pottery taster session. It was our first time throwing a pot and Karen was really instructive at just the right level for us to experience all the processes and get a good level of success. We highly recommend her.

Myself and my two sons had a great time! Karen was friendly, patient and informative throughout - such a lovely lady! We had a go at modelling first, which Karen took the time to guide us through in steps and there was a variety of tools to use to help us sculpt our clay. Then we all had a go at clay throwing on the pottery wheel! I was awful at it yet Karen was SO calm and helpful remaining patient while juggling to help the three of us. My boys had a wonderful time, even the awkward teenager. My youngest was over the moon as this was a treat for his birthday, something he'd wanted to do for a long time - he already wants to go again!! There were many colours too choose from for the glaze and Karen was able to guide me with her vast knowledge when I became stuck when making a decision. I'd thoroughly recommend booking to attend The Clay Chapel for anyone (-: thank you Karen!

It was a wonderful experience with my brother and sister . We made some clay faces and then got to make clay pots on the wheel which was actually quite challenging but really fun! I would definitely recommend it for a gift. Teacher was great and very experienced. Some background music would have been lovely and I would have liked some more photos however with clay covered hands, I'm not sure how that would have been possible
