This is a fun activity in Forest Gate, London

Important venue update: All workshops will take place at our new studio at 377 Station Road, Forest Gate.

Looking to expand your hand-building knowledge? This workshop will take you through all the steps to create your own medieval-style inlay tiles.
You will be guided through:

- The traditional methods used, and the history of this technique which was lost for hundreds of years.
- The two styles of medieval tile, inlay and sgraffito
- The different states of clay needed to achieve your design
- Deciding the shape of your tiles
- Carving out your own design
- Filling in the design with slip clay and cleaning away the surface to reveal your tile!

The Workshop will last 2.5 hours, and you will be required to return to the studio 6 weeks later to collect your tiles once they've been fired in the kiln. Postage is available at extra cost.

Please note: We strive to help you create something amazing during your pottery class. Because each piece is handmade and involves many variables (such as clay handling, glaze, and firing conditions), we’re unable to offer refunds or replacements for defects or damages that occur in items you’ve made.

Sorrel was an excellent instructor and very personable. She made me feel welcome and comfortable, and I felt I had a lot of freedom to be creative. I very much enjoyed making my tiles.

Small class size so lots of attention and the ability to create our own designs at our pace.

I enjoyed the class. I confess I am not particularly artistic. I liked the attitude that anyone can do this.

Cannot recommend this class highly enough. There was a really welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. It was so fun to try something completely new to us while guided by a supportive teacher.

Perfect way to spend a few hours with family or friends or just trying out a new skill in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Went away keen to do more and excited to see how the tiles look when fired and glazed.

Excellent tutor and background to topic. Easy to find from the local underground station. Achieved more than I expected and can't wait to see the final results. I had tile envy as there was a lot of creativity in the room. Not my work in the image but inspired to try something similar.
