This is a fun activity in Bank, London

Always wanted to try watercolour but found it hard to start on your own? This is a systematic foundation for anyone serious about learning authentic technique.

This 3.5-hour workshop is a proper deep dive, not a taster. It's led by an award-winning illustrator in a professional studio dedicated solely to watercolour, and you'll leave not just with a finished painting but with the skills to keep going on your own. Many of our students move straight from this workshop into our advanced classes to create original work.

What you'll learn
You'll explore professional watercolour techniques including wet-on-wet and dry-on-dry, and complete a full landscape painting in your first class. We guide you through recreating a painting step by step, from sketching to inking to laying down colour. Choose from four landscape samples, each focusing on a different set of techniques.

We'll also show you how to choose watercolour materials for yourself — selecting paper, mounting it, choosing pigments and matching them to brushes — so you can carry on at home without guesswork.

The materials we use
Using good tools is the fastest way to fall in love with watercolour, so we provide everything and you don't need to buy a thing.

- A mistake-proof palette: a personally curated selection of pigments from Daniel Smith, Winsor & Newton, Sennelier and Schmincke. They stay vibrant and resist going muddy, so mixing beautiful tones is far easier.
- Arches 300g paper: the gold standard. 100% cotton, absorbs water beautifully and stays flat, so your painting looks clean and high-end even on your first attempt.
- Professional squirrel hair brushes: soft and high-quality, holding far more paint than synthetics and giving smooth, fluid strokes.

Prepared before you arrive
We wet-mount your paper by hand before every class — a time-consuming professional technique where the paper is soaked and stretched onto a board. It means your paper stays flat as a drum however much water you use, so you can focus on painting instead of fighting buckling and puddles. It's a luxury usually reserved for professional studios.

“This was an incredible experience that I would recommend to everyone regardless of skill level or experience. The instruction was the perfect level of guided while also letting you do your thing. I went solo and had a great time, but this would be so fun to do with friends as well. Enjoyed every minute!”

“Fantastic! The teacher was very knowledgeable and although it was my first time ever doing watercolours and even if I am not great at drawing she guided me so well that I left the lesson confident and very happy with a finish work to hanging. I love the attention to detail, she gave me my work well packed to take home. My only comment is that the room is cold and perhaps I’d be happy to pay more and have some food while one waits for the painting to dry. As it is in the middle of lunch hour. I definitely recommend this activity and I’d be back for more. Such a great teacher!”

“This is a fabulous workshop, and a wonderful way to spend a Saturday. I have not done any form of visual art since I was a child, and I was more than a little bit nervous. Vencho was very good at putting everyone at ease. We started with choosing a landscape to reproduce, and were shown how to transfer a light sketch to paper. An intoduction to basic watercolour techniques followed, and then we got to work. As we paused to allow areas of painting to dry Vencho would outline the next steps, or share some of her extensive knowledge about watercolour painting and processes. She also shared information on what to look out for when shopping for art supplies if you wanted to start watercolour as a hobby. When the finishing touches had been applied, the pictures were placed on a cardboard mount. Vencho was very patient when I didn't quite get something the first time round. The small group size meant that we had plenty of support and help when it was needed. We didn't stop for a break during the workshop, but Vencho kept us supplied with a lovely delicate chinese tea. I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop, and came away with a picture that I am delighted with, particularly since I have never painted before. I loved the process, and I have discovered a hobby that I will take great delight exploring. Thank you for a lovely time.”

“Brilliant class. Very relaxed, small group, lots of one to one support. Vencho was a lovely teacher, was engaging and made the class fun. I will be looking at other classes she runs and booking again! Was able to purchase products used at the end and have come away informed of what else I can purchase to set me on my watercolour painting journey. Thoroughly enjoyed, thank you!”
