“Couldn't be happier with our oil painting class w/ Elena. She was calm, cool, collected, very knowledgeable, gentle and helpful. Neither of us has any experience with painting and we never felt as if we were out of our element or trying to do things without guidance. Elena allowed us to choose whatever wanted to paint and gave us a very helpful rundown of the main elements of a painting, most important the contrast between light and shadow. She encouraged us to go deeper into detail as we became more comfortable with the medium and tailored her style to fit the kind of teaching we each responded to. The result was an incredibly calm and relaxing 2.5 hours after which we took home 3 paintings (I finished one early and Elena encouraged me to do another). She taught me the importance of certain lines for detail and perspective, to paint objects closer to the foreground thicker, and how different objects should have different textures. Elena would help me paint when I felt stuck or overwhelmed. I had access to plenty of paints, ample brushes and palette knives, and the choice between painting on paper vs canvas.
