She taught me the importance of certain lines for detail and perspective, to paint objects closer to the foreground thicker, and how different objects should have different textures. Elena would help me paint when I felt stuck or overwhelmed. I had access to plenty of paints, ample brushes and palette knives, and the choice between painting on paper vs canvas.
