“5 stars for concentrates -- wow great clouds of vapor. 4 stars for flower -- I still prefer the effects from my bong and the bong bowl is easier to load and empty. That said the NX actually produces clouds from flower, the only hand-held vape I've had that does. The light display is cool and functional. Suggestion: have the colors randomize or cycle while drawing on it; that would be awesome. Minor issues: the little handle on top of the flower chamber lid is a bit too small for my old, clumsy fingers and I find the temp dial a bit awkward to use. A solid piece that has already replaced my portable vapes, but maybe not my bong.”
“I’m pleased with the Hydrology9-NX (NX) overall, with a few caveats. Note that I use it for flower. This is the first handheld vape I’ve used that actually produces decent clouds of vapor at less than incineration temperature, a huge relief after gambling on a large expenditure. The NX was easy to get going, especially since it arrived with a decent charge. It certainly has that “Wow” factor with the sleek design and interior illumination, a lot of nerd appeal! My only brief stumble was figuring out that the flashing white lights meant that the chamber wasn’t fully in the extended position.
I see this as a solo device as the flower chamber is rather small. It can be shared with one friend, but that’s about it. It’s fine for me as I usually fly solo. I generally get 2 solo sessions from a bowl before the vapor quality degrades to “ick!”. The yellow setting is the sweet spot, below that the taste is good, but effect minimal, above that the bowl vapes-out quickly.
I find nothing terribly wrong, so far, with the functionality. I’ve done a couple quick cleans, but no deep clean. I recommend wiping the flower chamber with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl about every other bowl and making sure the 5 air holes at the bottom are unobstructed. There is no weed smell from the device while it is sitting unused, even with a loaded bowl! The vapor is perfectly cool and easy to inhale. I have 2 portable vapes which produce much hotter vapor (and much less of it!) and will induce coughing if over-hit.
My problem is not with the NX; I find the vaped high different from and inferior to that of my trusty bong. The intensity of the first few bong hits is lacking and the duration of the peak effects seems shorter. Maybe I have to adapt or maybe learn better technique?
Some slight negatives:
* The little folding handle at the top of the flower chamber is a bit awkward for my old, clumsy fingers.
* It is much easier to empty and load a bong bowl than the NX flower bowl.
* Bongs don’t produce smelly ABV remnants to discreetly dispose of.
* The NX bowl is narrow across, but deep (it holds a bit more than you expect), but this makes the chamber a bit difficult to pack.
* I find the wheel that changes the temperature setting a little hard to use.
Suggestion: have the NX change its colors either randomly or cyclically while it is being drawn from. That would be awesome!
The NX is a great looking and well functioning device. It has already relegated by portable vapes to the unused box. Whether it will supplant my bong is still TBD.”
