“I placed my order on January 31 and received it on February 6, 2026. Unfortunately, the coffee I received was manufactured on May 19, 2025 (expiration date November 16, 2026), along with two additional bags manufactured in October and November 2025. While all three bags were technically within the printed expiration dates, coffee is widely understood to taste its best within approximately 4–6 weeks of roasting. By the time I received this order, one bag had been sitting for nearly eight months, and the others for several months as well. Although not “expired,” the coffee had clearly lost its freshness and aroma. If I had seen these manufacturing dates in a grocery store, I would not have purchased the product. I contacted the company to request a refund based on the lack of freshness. Their response was: “Please be advised that we are unable to accept a return for this item. The product remains in good condition and follows the same life cycle as those available in-store or at the grocery. For full details, we kindly invite you to review our return policy here: https://www.coffeebean.com/pages/returns-and-exchanges.” While I understand their stated policy, it is disappointing given that the company publicly emphasizes quality and freshness. In my experience, shipping coffee that is already several months old does not align with those claims. For comparison, Peet's Coffee typically ships coffee within days of roasting, and the difference in aroma and flavor is noticeable upon opening the bag. With this order from The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, there was little to no aroma from any of the three varieties. As a result, I was left with coffee that tasted stale and ultimately had to discard it. I hope this feedback encourages greater transparency around roast dates and fresher fulfillment practices so customers know what to expect when ordering online.”
