NOTE: For full mobile boom crane certification, you are required to take a mandatory pre-requisite: Core Competencies for Operators of Lifting Devices. This pre-requisite is included in this training program.
Safe Operation of Mobile Boom Cranes (SOMBC) is an eLearning course designed to enhance the performance of mobile boom crane operators by making them aware of their environment, hazards, technical aspects of their device, product handling, and securement. This eLearning will also assist with operators understanding their responsibilities and their own behaviours as it relates to the safe operation of a lifting device. This training was built based on the training requirements from CSA Z150.3-17 and CSA Z150:20. This training will enhance any prior training operators have had.
To obtain full certification, an employer, supervisor, or other qualified person is required to complete a practical evaluation upon completion of this eLearning. Anyone who purchases this course will receive access to Danatec’s Mobile Boom Crane practical evaluation to achieve full certification.

The Mobile Boom Crane course was good, particularly the center of gravity portions. I have never been satisfied with the way other courses explained that. However, I disagree strongly with the way the lifting capacities were read off the charts. Two of the answers pertaining to capacity within lifting zones were wrong in my opinion. I can explain further if anyone wants to contact me. I also found the prerequisite course ridiculous. Adults do not need a helper character to guide them, and even Sesame Street does not have quizzes where all the answers are correct. It's enough that the government safety people treat construction professionals as if they were illiterate. Courses we pay for shouldn't.
