What stays with us is our guide's wide-ranging knowledge on many topics (e.g. history, geography, politics, food!) Barry put our quest for birds into a richer context while seamlessly meeting everyone's interests. Photo #1: A stunning beach quest for shorebirds. Photo #2; Two Tree Point, where Captain Cook stopped for fresh water so many centuries ago. Probably saw the same birds! Photo #3: Forty-spotted Pardalote, probably the rarest bird of the tour.

Tasmania was a far cry from the Darwin area and the east of the country the participants had visited before. It had a temperate climate - we actually encountered a veritable blizzard on top of Mount Wellington above Hobart, but otherwise the weather was generally pleasantly cool. Temperate rainforests in the area were spectacular. Most of the trip was spent on Bruny Island, where we enjoyed pleasant accommodations and managed to see all the endemics of the state. Many thanks to our leaders Barry Davies and Rob Elvish - and the other participants! - for making this such an enjoyable tour.

We got to see most of the Tasmania endemics - very special. The Robins are just amazing. Good views on several Wallabies and Echidnas. Can't forget the Forty-Spotted Pardalote at Inala on Bruny Island. The accommodations on Bruny Island were great.
