The Iceland to Greenland cruise was very interesting. Sailing across the North Atlantic was surprisingly smooth, although we were told that this is not always the case. We saw Atlantic puffins, Northern fulmar, humpbacked whales during the crossing, and a pod of orcas when we approached Greenland. The western coast of Greenland is rugged, with lots of ice bergs. Black guillemot nest in one of the fjords we explored. We sailed through the Prins Christianssund at the south of Greenland. The water was still, with tall mountains on each side. Spectacular views again! The west coast of Greenland is much greener than the east. The Viking ruins at Hvalsey and abandonned Viking settlement at Brattahlíð are worth seeing. Evighedsfjord is a nesting colony for thick-billed murre and black-legged kittiwakes. The tour offered many presentations on the Greenlandic people and their culture, climate and climate change, wildlife, geology, and archeology. Lots to learn on this trip. It was not organized as a birding tour, but there were opportunities to see birds. I personally saw 22 species, including a white-tailed hawk in two locations. The crew and guides were very helpful, the accommodations and activities were great, and the food was amazing. Highly recommend this tour.
