Jan 19 - 29, 2026 | Our Belize & Tikal birding tour visits three outstanding birding locations: the incredible wetlands of Crooked Tree, the rainforest around Pook's Hill and the ancient Mayan temples at Tikal National Park. We will look for woodcreepers, tanagers, cotingas, manakins, toucans, trogons, king vultures, ocellated turkeys, and orange-breasted falcons and much more.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Belize/Tikal trip. Yousef was a very congenial leader, skilled at finding us great birds, and he maintained his composure in spite of some of the "bumps" that we experienced during the trips. The country is beautiful, the birds were plentiful, and really interesting, lots of diverse ecosystems to explore.

Our tour was awesome! Tikal was very interesting. Sitting on one of the temples and watching the sunrise was a great highlight. And, the Orange-breasted Falcon was a real treat to see. Crooked Tree in Belize was a great place to stay. The food was delicious! We enjoyed the boat ride and all the hikes in the area. The vermillion fly catcher was a real treat to see. We want to go back to Belize, one day!

Excellent organization. The guide was outstanding for his knowledge not only of birds but also of plants and insects and their ecology.

A carefully planned, well organized trip to three distinct habitats – mountainous and costal regions in Belize and jungles surrounding Mayan pyramids in Guatemala. Ernesto Carman, with Mayan guides at Pooks Hill and Tikal National Park, led us to great views of birds ranging from Ant-Tanagers and Jabirus to Ocellated Turkeys and an Orange-breasted Falcon. Our very capable and energetic guides also provided a lot of information about local plants, insects, and history.

The sites chosen for this trip were enjoyed and presented good birding opportunities. Tikal was a new site and the flight back was an added bonus. To get a broader experience of birds in this country I think brief time on the coast would have been great.
