Apr 4 - 18, 2026 | Colombia is the richest area for birds on the planet! Our Colombia Birding tour explores central and western Colombia from Bogota and its high altitude specialties north through the Magdalena Valley and its very bird-rich reserves, to the western Andes near Manizales, Pueblo Rico/Montezuma and Cali. We will encounter a host of exciting species - trogons, tanagers, wrens, toucans, and more - the list seems endless.

Colombia is a world class birding destination, and this trip proved it at every turn. The scenery was spectacular, the diversity overwhelming, and the guiding absolutely first rate. Luz and Blair were a phenomenal team, supported by Pablo’s steady logistics work. Luz’s knowledge of calls, habitats, and regional specialties was remarkable, and her ability to keep the pace relaxed while the species count soared made the experience both productive and enjoyable. The Andes offered their share of challenges, but the group’s camaraderie — especially the lively American Canadian banter — made the long days memorable. After six Eagle Eye trips, this one stands out as something truly special.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We’re delighted to hear that Colombia delivered such an exceptional birding experience, with its remarkable diversity, scenery, and regional specialties. We’re especially pleased to hear your kind words about Luz, Blair, and Pablo. It’s wonderful to know that their combined guiding expertise, local knowledge, and logistical support helped make the trip both productive and enjoyable. We also love hearing that the group camaraderie added so much to the experience — those shared moments often become some of the best memories from a tour. Overall an intensive 2-weeks of birding. The locations were mostly in the higher elevation cloud forest in all three ranges of the Andes, plus a couple of locations in the high elevation paramo (which were highlights), and a day on the very diverse Laguna de Sorso for waterbirds. In all the birding locations we had excellent guides (both our 2 tour guides plus local guides from the lodge or reserve we were visiting). They made every effort for us to find and enjoy the birds, especially the local specialties and endemic or rare species. A very satisfying tour all round.

We’re very pleased to hear that you found the tour so satisfying overall, and that the variety of Andean habitats, from cloud forest to páramo and wetlands, made for such rewarding birding. We’re also glad to hear that both the tour leaders and local guides helped make the experience a success, especially in seeking out the region’s specialties and harder-to-find birds. And thank you as well for posting your beautiful bird photos — they are a wonderful addition and really help bring the experience to life. We truly appreciate you sharing both your feedback and your images!

Colombia is a huge country with immense diversity. Although we visited only a very small portion of the country, we managed over 400 species and many endemics. The geography and variety of ecosystems we visited were spectacular - highly recommended.

The Colombia tour from 10 to 24 April 2025 was great. Excellent Colombian guide, Cris. Eagle-Eye Tours guide Hector got sick at the start of the tour, so I can not evaluate him, but Cris managed superbly on his own. LOTS of spectacular birds, many butterflies, wonderful flora and scenery. Accommodations ranged from fairly basic to excellent. Food was very good, especially soups and fish dishes, plus lots of fruits. We can a comfortable bus, with ample room and a great driver.

An amazing tour of the Central and Western Andes region. My first trip to South America and Colombia is an exhilarating place to bird. The tour was well organized with a highly knowledgeable guide, Christian Baza, who was flexible and responsive to guest interests and concerns. Local guides were excellent as well, with deep knowledge of their communities and environements. We visited many beautiful nature reserves and stayed at ecolodges and hotels that ranged from basic to very comforable indeed.

A well-organized and successful tour, led by two highly skilled guides. Accommodations ranged from top class to quite basic but perfectly adequate (a function of what is available in small towns). Colombia is not renowned for its cuisine, but meals were fine. Locals were pleasant and friendly, we encountered no issue with safety or road blocks, and our passenger van was comfortable and spacious. Highly recommended.
