Lee Oskar Natural Minor Harmonica The Lee Oskar Harmonicas Natural Minor is a very useful harp that makes it much easier to play many musical genres that would otherwise be very difficult to play on the Standard harmonica tuning. Even if a player could master the highly advanced techniques that would be necessary to play certain melodies, one still would not have the chords and Minor scale notes that the Natural Minor provides. Natural Minor harps have a very bluesy, soulful sound that’s perfect for playing Minor Blues, Reggae, Ska, Latin, Funk, R & B, Hip Hop. About the Natural Minor Harmonica This fabulous tuning is set up to play Minor music easily, without straining the lips, the lungs or the mind! · Note: The key labelled on the Natural Minor Harmonica is indicated by playing from the (draw / inhale – Cross Harp / 2nd Position) . · Natural Minors can be played in 2nd Position (Cross Harp), to achieve the Natural Minor scale and the relative Major Scale. · Starting from blow (1st Position / Straight Harp) you are playing in a Dorian Scale. · 2nd Position / 1st Position key labels are identified at the ends of the comb. In 2nd Position, many of the draw notes can be bent and this allows for a much more expressive, fluid style of playing. 2nd Position is a very popular style used by most players for today’s music.

I ordered a "D" Natural Minor harmonica to play blues in a minor key, as I'm too lazy to bend all the draw notes required on a harmonica in the equivalent major key in 2nd position; and couldn't be bothered to learn 3rd position (minor, Dorian) on a C (major) harmonica. I haven't practised with it enough yet to provide a comprehensive review, and I haven't bought Lee Oskar in a while (mostly Hohner), but first impressions are very good. It's well constructed, with an "easy-on-the-lips" plastic comb. Reed plates are replaceable (no spares included) which is great given harmonicas cost significantly more than when I first started playing (bought my first diatonic for £0.96p, or $1.30!!). Same size as a standard major diatonic, so no big learning curve with that aspect; and it's already configured in 2nd position, so you just need a little familiarisation playing and practice to work out where your (minor) runs, fills, etc, fit (best) into a given composition. The most impressive aspect so far has been the tone. Obviously I can't speak about other different keys in this range, but the tone on this one is rich and full. I really need to "get into bed and become more intimate" with the instrument, but so far, pleasantly surprised and quite impressed.

My first minor key Lee Oskar, but not my first Lee Oskar. Every bit as good as I'd expected.
