The EGW Solution for Your Trigger Job The secret to a world-class trigger is using parts that are dimensionally perfect and made from the right materials. Here’s why our sear is the superior choice:
Prepped for a Faster Trigger Job: The sear has been professionally shortened by .005", to eliminate the potential of hammer follow in the Springfield Prodigy. This saves your gunsmith time and effort in achieving the perfect geometry for a crisp, safe trigger pull. Machined from Solid Tool Steel: We don't use MIM (Metal Injection Molded) parts for critical components. Our sears are CNC-machined from solid American tool steel and heat-treated for exceptional durability, ensuring the engagement surface will not wear or chip over time. Precision-Ground Engagement Surface: The sear's engagement surface is precision-ground to be perfectly flat and square, providing an ideal starting point for a gunsmith to achieve a glass-rod crisp trigger break. Proudly Made in the USA: Every component is manufactured in our Quakertown, PA facility and is backed by a lifetime of service.

1911 Sear FAQ
Why is this sear "shortened"?
This sear is shortened to be a direct, drop-in reliability upgrade, specifically for the Springfield Prodigy. Through extensive testing and customer feedback, we discovered that some Prodigy pistols could experience "hammer follow" when using a standard, full-length sear. Our engineers determined that shortening the sear by a precise .005" completely eliminates this potential issue. This is not just a high-quality part; it's an engineered solution that ensures a safe, reliable trigger job in the Prodigy, while also saving your gunsmith a common step.
Why is gunsmith fitting absolutely required?
The sear and hammer relationship is the heart of the 1911's safety and function. Improper fitting can lead to a dangerously unsafe firearm (such as "hammer follow," where the hammer doesn't stay cocked) or a gun that does not function at all. This is not a drop-in part; it MUST be installed and fitted by a qualified 1911 gunsmith who can properly stone the angles and ensure all safeties are working correctly.
Gunsmith Installation Required For the safety and proper function of your firearm, this sear MUST be installed and fitted by a professional gunsmith.

Excellent Products. Minimal fitting required. I have several Prodigies and will fit each one over time. If you are going to buy the ignition kit I would suggest purchasing the stainless thumb safety as well. My original needed to be fitted and I screwed it up. So having a second one on hand helped immensely.

Best drop in kit for any 2011/1911 period. Amazing precision and high quality and the outcome is a crisp light trigger that is only found in multi thousands guns. The only thing I had to do was to slightly tune my existing thumb safety to clear a hairline interaction with the new components but that was not a big deal. Highly recommended

The factory prodigy internals seemed fine but I added EGW parts to be thorough while working on another issue and wouldn’t you know it? It really made a tremendous difference with the crispness and consistency. I did not even know I was missing.
