The EGW Solution for Your Custom Trigger Job The secret to a world-class trigger is using parts that are dimensionally perfect and made from the right materials. Here’s why our Long Sear is the superior choice for gunsmiths:
Extra Material for a Perfect Fit: This sear is intentionally left "long" to give a professional gunsmith the maximum amount of material to work with. This allows for a precise, custom fitting to any hammer and frame combination for a true, no-slop, glass-rod crisp trigger break. Machined from Solid Tool Steel: We don't use MIM (Metal Injection Molded) parts for critical components. Our sears are CNC-machined from solid American tool steel and heat-treated for exceptional durability, ensuring the engagement surface will not wear or chip over time. Precision-Ground Engagement Surface: The sear's engagement surface is precision-ground to be perfectly flat and square, providing an ideal starting point for a gunsmith to stone the perfect angle. Proudly Made in the USA: Every component is manufactured in our Quakertown, PA facility and is backed by a lifetime of service.

1911 Sear FAQ
Why would a gunsmith want a "long" sear?
A long sear provides the gunsmith with the maximum amount of material to work with. This is ideal when fitting a trigger in a frame that may have slightly out-of-spec pin holes or when mating with a custom hammer. It allows the gunsmith to remove material precisely where needed to achieve a perfect, safe, and exceptionally crisp sear-to-hammer engagement that is not possible with a standard-length or drop-in part.
Why is gunsmith fitting absolutely required?
This part is specifically designed for professional use. The sear and hammer relationship is the heart of the 1911's safety and function. Improper fitting will lead to a dangerously unsafe firearm (such as "hammer follow," where the hammer doesn't stay cocked) or a gun that does not function at all. This is not a drop-in part; it MUST be installed and fitted by a qualified 1911 gunsmith.
Gunsmith Installation Required For the safety and proper function of your firearm, this sear MUST be installed and fitted by a professional gunsmith.

Exact fit for my Colt Combat Unit and Springfield EMP. PERFECTLY machined. Used radius jig for fitment and had 100% function on the range. Absolute best trigger feel for my Colt Series 80 system - it elminated all creep and made it perfectly crisp. I will only buy EGW in the future!

The EGW Long Sear is the perfect length for the Tru-Radius Sear Jig. This Sear is also of the same high-quality EGW Standard Length Sear. Kudos to EGW for another world-class product!

I have a Walther 1911 22 Colt Gold Cup. I tried to improve the trigger with a Cylinder & Slide trigger kit but I kept getting hammer follow. I tried all the fixes and finally came across the sear not being to specs for my pistol. Once I put the EGW Long Sear in the gun everything works great.
