This kit does not include recoil springs, but they can be purchased separately. The head of the guide rod has smooth beveled edges to make for a seamless look.It is necessary to remove the front half of the guide rod to disassemble the gun.Check for fit in 3 areas:(1) Barrel feet should not contact head(2) Where guide rod rests against frame(3) Back surface of slide/dustcover is flat and even. This is designed for long slide 1911 pistols with 6" barrels.Machined from solid barstock here in the USA.This is a 2-pc guide rod. Disassembly of a long slide gun would not be possible with a 1-pc.

This EGW two piece guide rod for 6 inch long slide barrels was just what I needed to successfully re-assemble my 6 inch Springfield V-16 Long Slide 45 Super 1911. Disassembly of a long slide pistol is not possible with a 1-piece guide rod. Two-piece guide rods for a long slide 6 inch bull barrel (bushing-less) have no paper clip hole to capture so you can thereby remove the captured recoil spring and guide rod as a single unit. And for successful re-assembly I find it necessary to have a “third hand”—mine is a flat drill press vise with rubber inserts in the jaws to secure the upside down slide. The back section of the factory two-piece guide rod has the interior female threads and the front section has the male threads. This is a poor design because when you insert the short rear section into the spring and try to push the two forward into the reverse spring plug you will either kink up the un-captured portion of the spring or it will fly off somewhere. This is because the length of the back portion of the factory guide rod is so short that while trying to compress the recoil spring you cannot avoid kinking it up. The EGW design is better because in the EGW version it’s the back section that has the male threads and that makes all the difference, because this increases the length of the back portion, so that you now have more length to insert into the spring to begin with, thereby greatly reducing the length of the un-captured spring. In fact, the rear section is sufficiently longer than the factory version that you will need to flip the barrel link to the rear just to proceed. So because you can now push more of the rear of the guide rod & spring into the spring plug you can hold them down there and begin to thread the front section back into the rear section. And once the threading has started you’re home free.

Great product at a reasonable price. Dropped it into the 1911 with ease and works like a champ! Thank you!

Well made and stays secure during shooting. A bit thick for my Rock Island 1911, but a little work with emery paper made a perfect fit

Slightly longer OAL than my previous one. When in battery it extends beyond the end of the slide by about 1/4 inch. Function is perfect though.

I was looking for extra weight up front. This 6” flgr was well made and fit was good. EGW is a go to source for gun related parts.
