Prodigy Guide Rod FAQ
How does this guide rod simplify takedown?
Our one-piece guide rod simplifies disassembly of the Prodigy. It has a small hole drilled through it. During takedown, you retract the slide slightly, insert a small pin or a bent paperclip into the hole to capture the recoil spring, and then easily remove the entire slide assembly from the frame. It's a proven, reliable method that eliminates the need for the factory two-piece guide rod that requires an Allen key.
Will this fit the 5" Springfield Prodigy?
No. This guide rod is specifically dimensioned for the 4.25" Prodigy model. It is not compatible with the 5" model.
Important Fitment Information
This guide rod kit is for the Springfield Prodigy 4.25" model only. It will NOT fit the 5" model.

This is the guide rod and spring that the DS Prodigy should have come with from the factory. More simplified action, easier manipulation of the slide.

Once again EGW hits it out of the park! Whoever at SA who thought a two piece guide rod that has the potential to come apart just when you need it not to was a good idea needs to re-think that. The EGW guide rod and the parts that come with it are machined to fit the slide perfectly, function perfectly and even look better that that Allen key think that comes with the gun. So I need a small paper clip to lock the guide rod and remove it. At least I know nothing is going to vibrate out while I am shooting. Great job guys!

First thing in any 1911 or 2011 I do is replace the Recoil Spring and Guide Rod assembly. I prefer a Flatwire setup as that’s going to offer longevity. The other issue among 1911s and 2011s is that with most manufacturers, they’re not properly sprung. For these Pistols as an overall Platform, there’s only two Manufacturers in thr aftermarket I go with. Wilson Combat and of course, Evolution Gun Works. I get my parts from them knowing that they just work. I’m skilled in gunsmithing as a longtime hobby, so hand fitting isn’t an issue for me. The end result with this product in particular makes the Prodigy look better and function flawlessly. Definitely recommend this Guide Rod Kit from EGW for your 4.25” Prodigy. Combined with the other things I’ve done to mine, it runs fast like a Ferrari and is as reliable as an old Toyota Pickup that just doesn’t quit. Definitely going EGW for specific parts for my next Prodigy that’s coming in another month.
