HD 1911 3" Flat-Wire Recoil Spring (22 lb) - ISMI
The ultimate reliability and longevity upgrade for your 3" 1911. Factory round-wire springs in Officer's models are notorious for wearing out in as little as 500 rounds. This premium ISMI flat-wire spring is engineered from chrome silicon steel to last ten times longer, providing a smoother recoil impulse and consistent performance for thousands of rounds.
CRITICAL GUIDE ROD COMPATIBILITY
This flat-wire spring has a different profile than a standard round-wire spring. It MUST be paired with a guide rod specifically designed for 3" flat-wire springs, such as the EGW 3" Officer's Model Recoil System.
Firearm Compatibility
This 22 lb spring fits:
1911 Officer's Models (3" Barrel)
Kimber Ultra Models (3" Barrel)
Springfield EMP (3" Barrel)
Other 3" 1911-style pistols (e.g., Colt Defender)
The ISMI Flat-Wire Solution
The secret to a reliable compact 1911 is a durable spring. Here’s why this is the definitive upgrade:
Significantly Longer Service Life: Engineered from chrome silicon steel, this flat-wire spring is designed to last over 5,000 rounds, far exceeding the 500-round service life of most 3" round-wire springs.
Smoother Recoil Impulse: The flat-wire design compresses more linearly, providing a smoother, less "snappy" recoil feel, which is a major advantage in compact pistols.
Reduces Spring Bind: Flat-wire springs are less prone to kinking, binding, or losing length over time, ensuring your pistol cycles reliably for thousands of rounds.
Made by ISMI: Made in the USA by ISMI, the gold standard in firearm spring manufacturing, and trusted by professional gunsmiths worldwide.

3" 1911 Recoil Spring FAQ
What is this 22 lb spring for?
A 22 lb spring is the standard factory weight for most .45 ACP Officer's / 3" models. This spring weight is ideal for ensuring reliable cycling and returning the slide to battery with authority, especially with defensive ammunition. While it can be used in 9mm compacts, it would be considered a very heavy spring for that caliber.
Can I use this on my factory guide rod?
No. This flat-wire spring has a different profile than a standard round-wire spring and must be paired with a guide rod specifically designed for 3" flat-wire springs. Using it on a standard guide rod will cause it to bind and will damage the spring and pistol.

200 round in and just 1 failure to feed. Not the spring fault.

The EGW guide rod worked great on my RIA BBR 310. Super easy installation in place of the original guide rod. I highly recommend this setup!

Fit perfect. A little hard to get the paper clip out.

Looks and feels nice. Talking a star off because this spring makes it FAR harder to field strip and clean.

Installation was easy, but it would have been better if the paper clip had been inserted into the other side of the guide rod. I didn't have a lot of confidence in the OEM guide rod. This one is well-engineered and manufactured. I shot it today and it performed flawlessly.
