Springfield 4" Guide Rod Kit 9mm (14# Commander Spring) Reviews

4.6 Rating 7 Reviews
Read EGW Guns Reviews

This kit reduces recoil and increases longevity of the spring system in Springfield 4" guns.If you have a .45 ACP or .40 S&W you will need the kit with the 22lb flat wire spring available here. The kit includes a 1/4" guide rod, reverse plug and ISMI flat recoil spring. All systems use a 1/4" guide rod made from solid barstock with a take down hole.Reverse plugs are Blued carbon steel.Meant for use in Springfield 4'' 9mm 1911's only. All kits are drop-in. In independent testing, ISMI spring have endured in excess of 100,000 compression cycles. We don’t recommend going that long between changes however. With an ISMI spring, practice routine maintenance and change it once a year.

Very good product. It fit perfectly in my Springfield Armory 4" RO Compact 1911. But unfortunately, I need to try another recoil spring less heavier. This 14# Commander Spring that comes with the guide rod kit feels like a 20# Spring and when using it is slamming the slide foward so hard that feels like the FA is going to break apart.

The pin home needs to be repositioned to facilitate easy disassemble/removal from the firearm.

As a Fulltime Gunsmith I am very careful of what parts I use on any customer's weapon. I never use a customer gun as a test bed for any part. I installed this on my carry gun [EMP 4" 9mm]to test with numerous brands/types of ammo before using one on a customer's pistol. After test firing customers' guns I always try to run at least 15-20 rds through my carry gun so the last muscle memory I have is of my gun. I have run numerous brands/bullet designs through my EMP with rod kit. Recoil is less, zero malfunctions. Please note that I have tuned this EMP to my specs including a perfected trigger pull and break. Results for others may be quite different.
