The EGW Solution for 3" 1911 Reliability
The secret to a reliable compact 1911 is a well-designed recoil system. Here’s why our kit is the superior choice:
✔ Maximum Corrosion Resistance: The guide rod is machined from high-quality stainless steel, offering superior protection against rust and corrosion from humidity and sweat—ideal for a concealed carry pistol.
✔ Optimized Dual-Spring System: This kit utilizes a carefully balanced dual-spring system specifically tuned for the potent .45 ACP. The outer spring absorbs the initial slide momentum, while the inner spring provides a cushioned stop, protecting your pistol's frame from battering.
✔ Complete Drop-In Kit: This is a complete solution containing the stainless steel guide rod, guide rod cap, and both inner and outer recoil springs.
✔ Proudly Made in the USA: Every component in this kit is precision-machined and sourced in our Pennsylvania facility and is backed by a lifetime of service.

3" 1911 Guide Rod FAQ
Why choose a stainless steel guide rod for a carry gun?
Stainless steel offers the best possible corrosion resistance, making it the ideal choice for a concealed carry firearm that is exposed to humidity, sweat, and the elements. It also provides a perfect aesthetic match for stainless or two-tone 1911 models. Functionally, it is exceptionally durable and will last the life of the firearm.
Do I need a gunsmith to install this kit?
While this is a drop-in kit that does not require permanent modification, proper function is critical in a carry pistol. Due to slight variations between firearm models, minor fitting of the plug may be necessary in some cases (like the Springfield Ronin EMP 3"). For this reason, we always recommend installation be checked by a qualified gunsmith to ensure a 100% reliable fit.

I followed EGW’s instructional video on you tube and was able to install the guide rod without difficulty. The busing and single spring have enhanced the performance of my Para Wart Hog. This was a good purchase.

Couldn’t find an original replacement part from Springfield, so I went hunting aftermarket. EGW’s guide rod fit perfectly and functions flawlessly. Their service was quick to point out my ordering mistake and made the correction before the mail ran. Super folks to deal with. I’ll be back!

Got this Guide Rod assembly to replace the factory one in my wife’s Kimber Ultra 45 compact. The factory one is junk in about 800 rounds. And I for sure wasn’t going to replace it with factory parts. I love flat wire recoil springs for all of my full size government 1911’s because they don’t stack up and they run smooth and last up to 10 times longer then a standard round wire spring. This EGW Kit comes complete and with a flat wire spring, it’s a no brainer. Great kit

Had to grind down the plug to get it to fit into my 45 Colt Defender. Thankfully didn't have to send it back. Otherwise, appears to be a great innovation. Will see after I take it to the range.

Also fits a Kimber Super Carry Ultra HD… with some work. Had to file/stone the “ears” on the spring retainer (the part that installs into the slide) to fit. By doing so, it’s a perfect tight fit. After some testing with +P rounds noticed guide rod was being forced into the frame (Kimpro finish chipping off). So, tried a shock buff, and it actually fit, cycled, and was comfortable. Only thing that was strange to me was the finish wasn’t as nice as other parts I’ve used in the past from EGW and the recoil spring had a slight bend in it from the factory. I know, no big deal… but I still polished everything and replaced the spring. So far, 400rds flawless rounds.

Although not illustrated under product details, the guide rod kit fits the PARA Ordnance P10 perfectly. More important functions flawlessly in the gun. It replaced the over engineered, fragile OEM dual spring recoil assembly that was only good for a few hundred rounds and is nowhere available. EGW's recoil system brought my wonderful pistol back to life. Could not be happier.
