Having regrets about buying a bobtail 1911? Want your grip to feel full again? We have the perfect solution for you. Our Bobtail Regrets Mainspring Housing has the pin located high so that it works with frames that have been made or modified to have a bobtail grip. This will not work on frames with the hole in the standard location. The checkering on this mainspring housing helps get the weight in the right place and gives you good traction.Pins and springs do not come with this part. You can use the pins and springs from your original mainspring housing or purchase new parts from us.This mainspring housing makes a great replacement for plastic mainspring housings. This is our premium mainspring housing, designed and made by EGW. Fully machined from bar stock and then glassbeaded. This item will fit 1911 Government and Commander frames, it will not fit STI's or short grip frames. It is a flat mainspring housing.

The EGW Bobtail Regrets mainspring housing has saved three of my Dan Wesson 4.25” Commander sized pistols: the Commander Classic .45 ACP, the Guardian .45 ACP, and the Valor Commander chambered in 10mm. Each of these pistols were close to perfect for carry, but suffered from a single defect that was increasingly annoying to me: their bobtail mainspring housing, which to me is the dumbest “feature” to have ever been put on the otherwise perfect original grip of the 1911 pistol. One more case of an “addition” that is in fact a subtraction. This is because the bottom portion of the back of the classic 1911 grip is a critically important part of the grip that contacts the lower fleshy part of your palm and thereby provides you with a positive and solid grip on the gun that is a major contributor to accurate shooting. For me, the full size straight grips of the original Government and Commander models are the most perfect pistol grips ever made. The width is just right, the length is just right, the oval shape is just right, the straight back-strap is just right, and John Browning’s choice of an ideal 18º grip angle was just one more aspect of his mechanical genius. The only improvement to the original grip is the addition of checkering on both the mainspring housing and on the front-strap to give a better bite in the hand. I was inclined to retire these otherwise terrific Dan Wesson Commanders until I discovered EGW’s Bobtail Regrets mainspring housings. They completely saved these three pistols from an early retirement. Highly recommended for everyone who mistakenly thought they could ever get used to a bobtailed grip on a 1911!!!
