Installation & Overview
(Watch our guide on how to properly torque and install your EGW rail).
Modernize your classic Remington 788 with our one-piece Picatinny rail. The 788 is known for its fast lock time and accuracy, but finding quality mounting options can be difficult. This rail converts your receiver to a universal Picatinny standard, allowing you to use modern rings and optics with ease. Machined from domestic 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum, this rail is lightweight and rigid. The center channel (valley) running down the middle of the rail reduces overall mass without sacrificing durability. We also include the correct #8-40 mounting screws, which are specific to the 788 and often hard to find. Technical Specifications

Remington 788 Rail FAQ
Is my .22-250 a Long Action?
No. In the Remington 788 platform, the .22-250 uses the shorter receiver spacing (3.00" spread). You need our "Standard Action" mount for that caliber. This "Long Action" mount is specifically for the .308 family (.243, 6mm, 7mm-08).
Do I need to drill and tap my receiver?
Most Remington 788s came drilled and tapped from the factory. If yours has the 4 holes on top, this rail will bolt right on using the included screws. Note that the 788 uses larger #8-40 screws (included), not the standard 6-48 found on the Model 700.

Great product. I just wish they would remove the front extension on the rails, as most of the time we end up milling off the front in order to get the scope mounted at the proper height and back far enough for correct eye relief. But, I but knowing this will need to be done to almost all their bases and they are the only ones who offer rails for nanny rifle configurations. So, the trade off is worth it. Thanks for making products that most, if not all others, do not.

I had always used the weaver mount with this rifle, which as many know doesn’t give much leeway for scope ring adjustments. This works perfect and installation was very easy. The machining is good quality and the whole mount feels robust.

This fit perfectly. I was able to move my scope rings back about an inch. This puts me in the proper eye relief for my scope. I can now see clearly at the high powers of my scope.

There are not many companies making products for the 788 and EGW had just what I needed to replace the old style of scope base from the 1980's. This item arrived quickly and the fit and finish was perfect. This in not the first purchase from EGW and won't be my last.
