Picatinny Rail for Savage Flat Back Medium Action (J-Series) - 0 MOA Quick Check: STOP and Measure Your Hole Spacing.
CRITICAL: This mount is for the rare "Medium Action" (sometimes called J-Series). Your caliber (e.g., .243 or .308) does NOT guarantee fitment. Fits ONLY: Flat Back receivers with exactly 4.09" spacing between the two middle holes. Does NOT Fit: Standard Short Actions (~3.93") or Long Actions (~5.06").Mounting Hardware: #6-48 Screws (Included).
Installation & Overview
(Watch our guide on how to properly torque and install your EGW rail).
This is the "Missing Link" of Savage mounts. For a brief period (mostly pre-2003), Savage manufactured a "Medium Action" receiver, often referred to as the J-Series. These actions are longer than a standard short action but shorter than a long action. This EGW Picatinny Rail is precision-machined to fit that unique 4.09" hole spacing, solving the headache of finding a mount for these transition-era rifles. Machined from domestic 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum, this rail provides a rigid, one-piece mounting platform that bridges the receiver. The center channel reduces weight while the cross slots allow for flexible ring positioning. It is designed to fit the flat rear profile characteristic of older Savage receivers. Technical Specifications

Savage Flat Back FAQ
What is a "Medium" or "J-Series" Action?
It is an intermediate length action that Savage produced before standardizing on Short and Long actions. Even if your rifle is chambered in a short caliber like .243, it might be built on this longer receiver. Measurement is the only way to know. Ideally, the center screw spacing will be 4.09".
How do I know if I have a "Flat Back"?
Look at the rear of your receiver (where the bolt handle is). If the top surface is flat like a table, you have a Flat Back (Pre-2003). If it is round like a pipe, you have a Round Back (Post-2003/AccuTrigger).
Will this fit the Savage Axis?
No. The Savage Axis (and Edge) uses a completely different hole spacing. Please see our specific Savage Axis rails.

this was to fit gen 1 flat back med/action with 4.522 C/L of action screws, and it does. But when screwed to flat back the front end with radius is about .015 to .020 above action. The rail is flat on surface plate, so my action is one of savage many changes, or EGW has their dimensions wrong. I will mill off the flat face and make it fit, but just hate to fix new stuff.

It works perfectly well and modernizes my Savage 110S metallic silhouette rifle. It was built in 1980 and this medium Serie "J" action has not been manufactured since 1987 so it is difficult to locate one. EGW is the only one that provides the rail and I suppose there should be a demand for the thousands of rifles of that era still available. Now the rifle has more flexibility and I was able to mount a Primary Arms scope that due that did not fit the old mounts due to the rather short body of the scope. In any case, I am very happy with my purchase. I have made several purchases from your company thru the years for gun parts that are hard to find.

I was afraid I couldn't find a scope base for a rifle action that was discontinued 20 years ago. But EGW had the base and it fit perfectly.
