Minor modification to the sight base may be necessary for some 1911s including Rock Islands, Citadels, and GSG 1911 .22s.
Please note, some manufacturers use licensed Novak rear sights. These are cut to the manufacturer's spec and are NOT GENUINE/traditional/true Novak rear sight cuts. One of the most common manufacturers to do this is Taurus. Ruger also uses smaller Novak rear sights on their fixed sight revolvers. Our mount will NOT fit these applications since they are not a traditional/true Novak cut. We do not offer any options for those applications. Please refer to Novak's site and/or call the manufacturer of your firearm to confirm that you have a GENUINE Novak cut, not a licensed Novak cut.

Our red dot sights are meant to be installed from the left to the right (with the muzzle facing forward). The dovetail has a progressive taper to allow for easier install.
Simply remove the rear sight on your gun and replace it with our mount in order to mount your Vortex Viper/Venom, Burris FastFire, or Docter red-dot sight. No alterations are required. You can take our mount off and replace your rear sight at any time. Mounting hardware included. Minor modification may be neccessary for Rock Islands. Our products should be installed and checked by a qualified and competent gunsmith.Installation Instructions- Remove the rear sight*- Install the EGW Sight Mount in the dovetail- Tighten set screw (if applicable)- Place the red dot sight on the EGW Sight Mount(placing a small piece of paper between the red dot sight and the sight mount will make for easier removal and will keep Loctite off of the red dot sight.)- Apply blue Loctite to the provided mounting screws- Torque mounting screws to 15in/lbs2 Button Head Cap Screws - Provided for Vortex Viper and Venom Sights2 Flat Head Cap Screws - Provided for Burris FastFire and Docter SightsThe screws that are included with this mount require a 5/64'' allen wrench for installation.

“First the underside facing trigger was not milled enough. When attempting to slide the dovetail, I could clearly see the the underside was hitting the top of the slide. I could not slide a feeler gauge as clearance. After some anting filing and sanding It cleared. However when in place the entire mounting plate was dipping down and not level. Very disappointed with product and installation. Have installed other viper plates from other sources on some of my other guns and no problem. Sorry I through the whole mount in the trash.”

“I purchased this mounting plate after exchanging text messages with Customer Service. I was told and read that it would require some fitting to make it work on my GSG 1911 22lr. Pistol. The factory rear sight was quite easy to remove. The EGW red dot mounting plate required considerable time (about 2 hours)spent filing and fitting. I reworked the Novak dovetail a little at a time until I could push it in by hand to about 1/3 the way into place. I used a small block of hardwood and a small 10 oz. Hammer to drive the sight most of the way into place and finished with a small punch and 10 oz. Hammer. I was very please with the end result, mounted my red dot onto the sight, only took 6 rounds to zero the sight. Over all I'm very happy with the end results and would not hesitate to make another purchase for EGW”

“I would only recommend if you have the equipment to file this down. I had two slides with Novak cuts...both with I dustry standard Novak sights already in them I was replacing. One I didn't file and tried to fit in as directed...it is now stuck and I will have to have it MILLED out of my slide. Basically making a $300 slide useless and will probably cost a hundred or so to mill. The other I filed down the mount on a belt sander and was able to fit it in nicely. It's a great adapter HOWEVER do not trust the mill specs. Check the fit and if it looks too tight file it down.”

“I was nervous about this mount fitting my Springfield 1911. Some internet sources indicate that the rear sight cut on the SA 1911 is smaller than a true Novak. Not true. This is my second mount from EGW. The other was for a S&W Mod. 52. Both drifted into place just like they are supposed to, and the Vortex Venom fit the mount perfectly. My experience with EGW has always been great.”
