Re: Colt Gold Cup Pistol, EGW SKU #49322, Vortex Venom Sight. With this setup, my impacts were 13" low at 25 yards. I was advised to install a 1 degree shim between the mount and the sight. Doing so would then physically shift the sight in such a way that it would be pointing closer to where the impacts were on the target. With the shim in position, it completely covered the two rear integral pins on the mount, in effect negating their purpose. The two front pins did protrude above the shim, but only by a very small amount. I was not comfortable installing the Venom onto the mount with this arrangement as it was, especially when considering that this is a .45 ACP Pistol. The shim was removed and the sight was attached directly onto the mount. To obtain a "zero", almost all of the available, upward elevation in the sight had to be used. I don't like to "ride on the edge" of any sight's range of adjustment, but no other option is available. The four holes in the underside of the Venom are approximately 3/32" deep. The four integral pins on the mount are only 1/32" high. If these pins were made higher than they are, all of them would always be able to engage the four holes in the bottom of the sight, whether a shim was being used or not. This mount is very well made, except for the height of its pins.
