I have a Kimber 1911 with a fixed rear site. I removed the rear site without difficulty. I have a pusher. I did have a problem with the installation of the mount you sent me. I managed to get the mount started in the dovetail with some difficulty. I got it in about half way, or nearly that, and I decided I needed help. It was very tight and I didn’t want to damage anything. I took it to my gunsmith and waited in the front show room while the gunsmith pushed it in. He came back, after some time, and show me the mount that was now destroyed and told me that in the attempt to install the mount he had also damaged his pusher. I don’t think my Kimber slide was damage. I looked at the slide briefly, but I left it with him. I didn’t use Loctite in the attempt to install the mount. I’ve had a little time to think about it and I do believe the problem is with the EGW mount. Assuming that the design of the mount is good, I think the mount was manufactured outside tolerances to the high side, though I have no way of taking measurements. I should have been able to self-install the mount if the mount had been designed and manufactured correctly. I own a Glock 19 Gen 2 that I had self-installed a mount on and I don’t recall having any problems with it. I’m not a gunsmith but I do have some related experience. I’m a retired Airframe Stress Engineer. I’ve work for companies including Lockheed, Boeing, Northrup, Sicorsky, and Gulfstream supporting the design, manufacture, and repair of both civilian and military aircraft. I’ve also worked as a Stress Engineer for Rolls-Royce, Indianapolis supporting design, manufacture, and repair of their gas turbine engines. I’ve left my slide with the gunsmith. He said he would secure another mount and complete the installation. In the mean time I am without my Kimber.

I brought the part and my Kimber Ultra Carry II to my gunsmith. He really did not want to install the part in the dove tail of the Kimber as he said it would not fit without potentially damaging the part and or the dovetail on the slide. I gave him the OK to try and I would not hold it against him if either was damaged. Ultimately, with a lot of banging the part was put into the dovetail. He told me with all the work involed the part would NOT be able to be removed. I do NOT recommend this installation for the faint of heart....I have yet to fire the UCII with the optic on it....Ultimately, I might love the decision to change over....I can say the part is not going to loosen up. The only question will be how the optic fairs on the UCII.
