Machined from: Heat Treated Stainless Steel Finish: Stainless Steel Paddle: LoweredYour grips may need to be modified for this safety to work properly.EGW is excited to be one of the few to offer a machined from solid steel thumb safety. We saw a need for a cleaner, more solid design as a result of consistent failures of inferior cast and MIM thumb safeties currently on the market. The only way to keep the safeties as straight as possible is to heat treat the steel and then machine it in the hardened condition. The thumb safety is serrated for better gripping capability. Our thumb safeties are machined in one of our seventeen CNC machines. We always recommend our products be installed and checked by a qualified and competent gunsmith.

I developed a preference for a lowered thumb safety years ago with the old cast Gunsite thumb safety (a rough & ready part, but not something proper for either a higher end 1911 or one that is for duty/defense). The EGW was easy to install with minor fitting between the safety and sear interface. The geometry is much better for my grip. This is a very high quality part. In all likelihood, I will be buying another (which pretty much says it all).

Best thing ever for the 1911. Been waiting for something like this for years. There are others but this is the best of the lot. Thanks EGW. Only thing missing is a thumb shield and the combination will be perfect. I have four 1911s and I have it in all of them.

Very nice improvement. It helps the thumb over safety hold and provides a reliable grip safety disengagement with a more natural hand position. Very solid and well made. Can be fitted with a few minutes of careful work with a file and the ribs filed down or sanded to taste. The plunger hole cut was precisely and the snap action is just right. The stainless can be polished mirror smooth. You will need to notch the grip to fit.

An injury made it difficult to disengage the thumb safety on my 1911, and I was also unable to ride the safety with my thumb. This low paddle safety was the perfect solution. This safety's paddle is not only lower, but also wider than most OEM units. With this combination I can more easily flick the safety to the off position during my draw stroke and comfortably shoot with my thumb over the safety. If you have an injury, or joint issues this part could make all the difference for you. This low paddle thumb safety could also benefit shooters with smaller hands.
