If ever anyone deserved five stars it is these guys. Where do i start??? Okay i rode a segway once before at a convention i went to. i stepped on, rode in a circle, stepped off. this in no way qualified me to ride on the street with cars, buses taxis, bikes, etc. I was relieved to find out they would do a training to make everyone comfortable. We were assigned our steeds which came with cutie names, a helmet, radio receiver and safety vest. Okay the vests look a little dorky and they advertise on them but i am all for anything which makes us more visible. Training was pretty easy, step on/off (angel hands), watch a training/safety video, forward, turn and panic stop. Then they take you out of turtle mode and inform you that you now have a new top speed of 10mph. Dan was our tour guide (recommend him) and away we went. My first oh crap moment was when we rode out into traffic on the road (with buses, cars, taxis, etc) but the training was good and the anxiety level remained low. Dan explained that when we did something we went as a group (like a bus) so as to stay together and not confuse the other traffic. before long we were settled in and seqwaying through the streets of san francisco. my second o crap moment was when we came to the first steep downhill...just lean back slightly and the machine takes you down... incredible. I would say it takes about an hour to be really comfortable. Then the thing becomes an extension of your mind and does exactly what you want. Once you get your sea legs...so to speak...this is more fun than i can describe and you can imagine. Literally the most fun you can have on two wheels. We are already talking about our next trip....golden gate park or the advanced down lombard street. Dan was great, informative, watched out for everyone and funny. As much fun as the segways are to ride, the tour was more fun with him pointing out little things along the way like places of interest or potholes. Electric Tour Company takes your safety seriously and Dan did as well. Okay back to the dorky vests. We saw another tour group on a competitor without vests, they were also running single file and more by themselves. I like the way dan kept everyone together (we were all dressed in the same dorky vests) directed our bus, gave us ongoing instruction and prompting, and kept us all together and safe. He talked to us through the radios and kept us informed of where to go, where to be on the road and anything we should watch for. Alas the 2.5 hours seem to fly by in a few minutes and we found our self back at the start, dismounting for the last time. If you are planning a trip to SF and are looking for a once (or twice) in a lifetime adventure, give them a call and go for it. (my review on yelp)

The tour was more than we expected. We learned a lot of interesting facts about the area, got to experience some great food during a break, and Dan added a lot of quick-witted humor to the tour.

Fun experience, as well as great way to get a flavor of San Francisco and part of the historical significance of one of its oldest neighborhoods.
