Some people said it was to keep fingers out of the burr disks but that was not all it does. It also helped with the static buildup in the grinds. I removed mine and wished I had not right from the first try...
Was a perfect fit and was as simple as it gets to replace. Remove the two screws inside the funnel and use the foam sticker to hold the screen onto the outside of the funnel. Reattach the funnel and life is good again.”
