“This wheel is impressive! It doesn't really give you an indication of how fast you're going based off feel, because it keeps supplying power and it doesn't wobble at 40 or 50 mph. I got the hybrid tire and will only keep a road biased tire on an Oryx. 80%+ of my riding is unpaved (rocky packed earth mountain single track) trails on a Lynx / Lynx-S, but it's great fun also having this asphalt monster. With the weight, I have zero intention of taking it specifically off-road. If you're a commuter, I'd be all over this. Maybe not for nimble agility like dodging traffic, but for just comfortably going the distance. You can go uphill in a 20mph headwind and it has no problems maintaining speeds to not interfere with traffic on a 35 mph road.
With its weight, I maybe won't take this on road trips since it wouldn't be fun picking it up to the back seat of my Tundra or schlepping it up stairs at a motel. However, it's awesome having a big wheel, it's such a different feel than a midsize or small wheel where it provides a different experience. If you can afford it, own all sizes and tire types. The Oryx is a rock solid ride, I'm going to remain loyal to Leaperkim, I don't need the bells and whistles or the best power to weight ratio, I want the most reliable well-made products. She's a beauty as well. I'm stoked to own it : D”
“Having owned pretty much every Leaperkim model including all the sherman's right up to the shermal L which I still own and with a motorcycling background, I can confidently say the Oryx is as close as you can get to what an actually homologated one wheele motorcycle might feel like. It is amazingly stable, especially at high crusing speeds, it floats over holes with it's giant tire (street) and plush suspension. The gyro effect is big but that's a good thing, this is not a nimble sport wheel it's a large format touring wheel. My only 2 gripes are: the suspension settings are now just one setting which is not as granular as the previous shocks meaning I have to content with a perfect compression but too slow rebound for my taste, lastly, the light is great but the top corner cutouts are just in the wrong spots when doing dark twisties so you need to lift the light up to see properly or carry a hand/helmet light. Id does lack the off the line pep that you will get with Sherman L but it more than makes up for it on other ways.”
