Mika's sister had a big cat. Wow. The cat had three kittens in a basket.""These charming books were written by a Montessori teacher and tested over time in her classroom. The simple text is geared toward children's humor, and the short, mostly phonetic, sentences provide plenty of opportunities for sounding out words.Delightful illustrations and mild suspense will capture young readers so they can experience the joy of reading a real story. Most words are phonetic; includes some consonant blends and some sight words. The sentences in this set are a bit longer than in Set 1 (L600). By Rhonda Lucadamo. Illustrated by Heidi Weathersby and Jennifer Willhoite. Printed with soy ink. 8 paperback titles; 8 pages each.Titles: Neel's Pumpkin, Spring, Kittens, The Otter, Pockets, We Camp, The Raccoon, and Ants on the Run.

I have my child read a book each day for practice - first grader - and she loves the stories and the reading gives her confidence in her ability. We bought both sets - I wish there were more.

My daughter loves these. The stories are more engaging than other sets I own, including Bob Books. The illustrations are sweet. I'm buying sets for two nieces this Christmas.
