“I have an 8-year-old CLX-3175FW printer, which recently began producing smudges and ghost images on the print-outs - sometimes it was a horizontal line of black smudge, and on multi-page print jobs the second page would have a faint ghosting of the first page. These problems were completely solved by replacing this transfer belt unit within the printer. According to one of the contributors to an online forum on this subject, the rubber wiper blades in the old unit (which scrapes off excess toner from the transfer belt) have become mis-shapen / worn out, and so unwanted toner particles are making their way onto print-outs. This seemed to make sense when I took the old unit apart to examine the state of the internal mechanisms. If you are having similar issues, don't forget to check the manufacturer part number for your transfer belt unit, to ensure you're ordering the correct part for your printer. I'm really glad that replacing this part has saved me from having to buy a new printer!”
