I am another woman who thought she might as well tone her biceps whilst doing her triceps. I was surprised by the size of this, it easily fits my fairly slim female arms, but I imagine that if you are overweight or a man with developed muscles already, it's going to be a tight fit and might require an extra hand to stabilise it whilst you are stretching the elastic round your arm. The wires seemed plenty long enough for me at 5 foot 6, I put the controller in a trouser pocket. When it falls out it dangles around mid-thigh. I've had this for 2 months, and it has toned my upper arms. It is definitely going to work your upper arms if you strap it on and rack up the power. It is difficult to do much with your hands when it's on, as they can move with the electrical stimulation. The instructions recommend that you sit with bent elbows, and your hands in front of you. So you can watch the telly or read or have a coffee. But you wont find any of these activities as enjoyable because of the muscle contractions. This makes it less useful if you want to multi-task and exercise whilst getting on with other things. I suspect that if you did biceps curls and triceps dips for the same amount of time (15-20 minutes) you would get at least as good results, and probably better than with these pads. Probably very useful if you can't move your elbows, or take weight on them. In the summer, with short sleeves on, there is a worry that any caller to your home might see you wearing them. After you've taken them off, you need to check your arms for tell tale residue from the sticky pads. In the winter you may need to half undress to get these on. And the pads are quite cold and clammy, even when it's warm. I will keep using them, as it has been effective, but not as often as I could. For me, this is not a must have item, not like the Slendertone belt.
