“The experience of biking through small villages and along the coast of Vietnam was wonderful. The support of the Grasshopper Team was not. I had multiple bike issues including a poorly programmed Wahoo and these were not dealt with adequately when I mentioned them. I recieved replies to my concerns but nothing that helped or worked to resolved the problems. In addition, this is a hybrid-self guided tour. Other people are doing the same route and staying in the same places. I have done self-guided bike trips before and this was quite a bit different and less satisfying especially when it was necessary to wait for the group to arrive before transportation could occur. I'll not travel with Grasshopper again.”

As there were multiple groups starting on the same date, certain elements such as pick-ups and luggage transfers may have been coordinated alongside other travellers. However, each booking still follows its own itinerary and rides independently, allowing you to travel at your own pace throughout the trip. “We had a great trip although their statement "you're in for a smooth ride as almost all the roads are paved" is a bit of a fallacy. Yes, a majority had cement paving at some point in its life but many, many potholes, debris, and uneven surfaces. Also be forewarned about the crazy traffic/driving, especially at intersections, from cars and scooters when you are in the cities. The food was delicious but primarily available in the cities/towns so be sure to bring lots of snacks for the rides.”

We've taken this to heart and made changes on the tour page to remove mention of a "smooth ride" so expectations are realistic. I'm glad you still had a great time on the trip. While the majority of the riding is in rural areas, it's true there are some brief unavoidable stretches in the cities. Appreciate the advice to fellow riders about bringing snacks along as well. Hope we'll see you on another Grasshopper adventure again soon!

“As a fit, independent rider, I found I enjoyed this tour immensely. The routes were easy to follow needing little extra interpretation and the roads were mostly well graded and smooth. With the offered bike upgrade, I covered the distances without trouble giving myself time for side excursions. One of the hotels was rustic but the other three were exceptional. I especially enjoyed the ride to the Sanctuary of My Son and the ride over Hai Van Pass.”

“The Vietnam self-guided tour takes one through one of the most beautiful and historic regions of Vietnam. There is plenty of culture to be experienced, ancient history to take note of, natural beauty and ample contact with the people of this beautiful country. Their friendliness and willingness to assist with whatever one needs is exceptional. The tour was exceptionally well organised. Everything was always in place and as anticipated. The hotel accommodation was excellent. Grasshopper's cell phone app needs special mention: It is a valuable tool to guide the cycling group and the information contained in it was always correct and up to date. This also applies to the route guidance function. Grasshopper's staff was very supportive and always friendly. Regarding the route, it was generally on smaller roads, very safe and enjoyable in our opinion. And finally a word of warning, depending on one's country of origin, the heat and sun are challenging factors to deal with. Cycling in 40-plus degrees with a high level of humidity, is no joke. Make sure you are mentally prepared and have enough sunblock, water and other protection. Stop regularly, buy water from the local shops, and don't push yourself. We generally started at 08:00 due to breakfast arrangements, but are convinced that if the breakfast arrangements could be changed it would be much better to start at 06:00. In summary, an excellent tour, very exciting, but with its challenges!”

“Our self-guided bike tour lived up to our expectations and also offered some challenges. Grasshopper's customer service is unsurpassed and they attended to our every need. The majority of the route was through rural areas which provided a unique insight into Vietnamese life and culture. The traffic and different cultural norms around driving were challenging as a biker and took some time to get used to.”

“Highly recommend this trip. We had a fantastic time in Vietnam on the self-guided tour and it all went smoothly. The hotels were all good quality and we particularly enjoyed the comfy bed at Lang Co! Having experienced some other bicycle tour companies we love Grasshopper the most. Great route, great service and a great time! We’ll definitely be back!”
