Our cycling and walking tour of Vietnam was amazing. We saw so much and had so many experiences in the time we had that it is hard to believe it all. The guides Thang, Bao and Trung were so well organised that it all went like clockwork with the great drivers who were always there to pick us up right on time. From the floating markets to the great restaurants to the home visits, cooking class, coffee making experience, kayaking, boat ride at Tam Coc- it was all fantastic. The guides were very knowledgeable about the various parts of the country that we visited but they were also generous in sharing thir own and their families experiences of life in Vietnam over past generations. They are also very passionate about their love of their country. The accommodation and food was great. We loved experiencing the delicious Vietnamese food. The itinerary worked well and was flexed in some cases to better fit the circmstances. The managing of 2 parallel groups (cyclists and walkers) was done well where we joined up at various points to do joint activities.

Thang and Trung were excellent guides. From the moment we initially met the lads to the last day of the tour, they were always there. They were so helpful, it was wonderful to know everything was taken care of. We learnt a lot of local knowledge from them. We would have no hesitation recommending others to join the Vietnam Essentials Tour. Thank you

Did a tour in May to Japan. Had booked it a year in advance and paid in full 60 days prior. 30 days before the tour they cancelled our pre bike trip tour to Hiroshima and left us to figure out what to do. After we arrived in Japan, 5 days before our bike tour was to start, they sent a list of hotels that was different than what we signed up for. All hotel changes turned out to be substantial downgrades from what was originally scheduled. On the bright side, the 2 guides were fantastic, Toto and Karl! They made our trip enjoyable, despite what Grasshopper had done to us. We did get a small refund from Grasshopper, but not enough to make up for the hassle and disruption all these changes had impacted our entire trip. Even our bike jerseys we were supposed to have on the trip did not show up until after we got home.

Hi Joe - thank you for sharing your feedback here. We're super glad that your trip was enjoyable and you had a great time with Toto and Karl. From the pictures, it really looked fantastic and I believe you guys got quite lucky with great riding weather! Regarding your concerns, as advised to you directly at the time, the pre-tour Hiroshima and Onomichi Explorer was cancelled because the G7 Summit in Hiroshima was happening on the exact two days of your trip, and the message from local authorities was "don't come due to security concerns" and our standard hotel was then booked out for admin staff and they cancelled our booking. I was not confident that we could deliver on our promise of a great experience (and also didn't have a suitable hotel alternative available) so we made the tough decisiont to reach out and cancel this. For the hotels in the itinerary, as discussed with you and your crew, one hotel was indeed not on our standard or backup property list (the one atop of the Shikoku karst) and we are deeply sorry for the last minute change. I know how frustrating this was for your group and appreciate the negative impact this had on your trip, having to drive up the windy road at the end of the day. Our goal was to ensure that you could enjoy the excellent itinerary without deviating too far off course. I know there was some frustration around the size of rooms, even in our standard properties, but rooms are generally much smaller in Japan, even outside of the big cities. I hope that the refund of 500$ per rider went some ways towards easing your frustrations and convey again our deep apologies for any issues that hindered your enjoyment of your trip. As I informed you prior to your trip, we have made some process changes and up-staffed our team and are better prepared for the strong demand for our Japan tours than when Japan first opened up. It is a red hot destination and we are ready to rumble with an incredible crew of guides and drivers, excellent bikes, comfortable hotels, and absolutely unbelieveable rides. We hope we'll have the opportunity to host you on another adventure with us at a later date.
The Grasshopper Shikoku tour is a trip of a lifetime. Cycling through local villages and beautiful landscapes with a fun group and thoughtful guides created the perfect combination of culture and activity. Being relatively new to cycling, I found some of the mountain climbs to be especially rewarding and memorable. I was impressed with the routes Grasshopper designed, taking lesser traveled roads and always making a point to experience local Japanese food and culture. The hotels along the way were excellent, with hot springs to help relax after an adventurous day. Highly recommend anyone, no matter your fitness level, or whether you're solo or in a group, to join this tour if you can, you won't regret it.

We had a fantastic five days with Grasshopper in Northern Laos. We hiked and biked in the most stunning scenery. We stayed in outstanding hotels. We spent a day on a boat going down the Mekong. It was an amazing experience and our guide looked after us beautifully.

Having never been on a Grasshopper tour before I was unsure what to expect. The experience far exceeded my expectation with a nice mix of cycling and culture. Exploring small quiet roads was a delight which typically included stunning views. All your needs were taken care of as a van follows you around with your gear, plenty of food and drink as well as the usual cycling tools. We also go to visit temples, experience paper making and even made soba noodles. The accommodation was a mix of traditional Japanese as well as more international-style hotels all of which were very clean and pleasant to sleep in. The food was Japanese and delicious although the breakfasts became a little monotonous. It would have been nice to have cereal and a good cup of coffee or two occasionally. Our guides were fantastic and lots of fun. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were constantly making sure the bikes were clean and ready for use. I brought my own bike and they even cleaned this for me - how good is that? I would highly recommend this tour and would happily sign up for another Grasshopper trip in the future.

Shikoku Waratah’s Tour September/October 2022 A great tour organised once again through Adam - my sixth with Adam Shikoku is a wonderful place to cycle - spectacular scenery, mainly quiet “car free” roads. However there were some long hills- the great scenery. And the food was fantastic. The local team - led by Norman (an American who lives in Japan - fluent Japanese), Reiko his wife and the expert mechanic and Dale were the best team I’ve had anywhere. Nothing was too much trouble everything just “happened” We had a great group of riders - all of us only knowing an half or less of the other riders; but the group just « clicked ».

We did the Vietnam Ocean road self-guided ride in February 2020. It was a wonderful experience from the briefing to the final pickup. We are both in our 70s and fairly fit. We ride often at home. We found the ride challenging but very doable. The scenery is very varied and super interesting. We really appreciated getting out into the countryside and small communities and felt that we saw a side of Vietnam that could be seen in no other way. At first we were a little nervous about heading out into the countryside with no Vietnamese, but quickly realised that it was no problem at all. With a few words of hello, thank you, and goodbye we found everyone welcoming and helpful. We stopped in several coffee shops where no English was spoken and had no trouble getting what we wanted with the aid of the Grasshopper guide and Google Translate. Riding in traffic in towns can be a bit daunting at first, but we very quickly realised that Vietnamese drivers and motorbike riders are very bike conscious. Look around, signal, go with the flow and we were soon navigating busy intersections with no trouble. Navigating the route with the Wahoo Grasshopper provided was very easy too. That said, I got a local SIM (very cheap) and also used RidewithGPS on my phone (Grasshopper provides a phone mount). We like to be able to zoom in and out and even take an impromptu side trip which RwGPS makes easier, for example, en route between Hue and Vedana we went down a side road to the ocean which would have been a bit more difficult to find and do with only the Wahoo. We also enjoyed all the overnights and wished we could have stayed longer at some of them. The fishing community at Vedana Lagoon was fascinating and we could easily have enjoyed the resort for another day. We had three nights in Hoi An and opted for a further two at the end and really enjoyed our time spent there as well as the day ride out to My Son. We could have easily stayed another night in Tam Hai as there is lots to do there to fill a day, not to mention just relaxing at La Domaine. Last but not least, the Grasshopper support was super from the briefing to the final pickup. We set up a WhatsApp connection and they were flexible with both time and location of pickup. We opted for the hybrid bikes and were glad we did. Although there are a few bumpy stretches and the occasional small track, in our view, none of the route was really mountain bike territory and we appreciated the extra efficiency of the hybrids. There is so much to see and do on this ride we would easily do it again.

We enjoyed two Grasshopper trips in Thailand: the 4-day Mekong Expedition Tour and the Cruising the Coast to Samui tour. As we have experienced before, the trips were very well planned and organised. The bicycles were in excellent condition and any mishap (flat tyres) was quickly addressed with minimum delay. The overnight locations were of good quality and in beautiful locations. Snacks, food and drinks during the day and in the evening were aplenty, giving us the chance to enjoy foods we otherwise wouldn’t have tried. Interesting stops were planned to meet local people and to visit attractions and monuments. The staff was friendly, capable and knowledgeable. We were even surprised by their attentions on our birthdays. We can recommend Grasshopper and their tours.

Fantastic 2 week tour of Cambodia and Vietnam for our family of 2 adults and 3 children aged 17, 15 and 12 years. Friendly guides with good English showed us around, explained the sights and gave insights into life in their countries. Accommodation, dining, travel and local tours all arranged so that everything ran smoothly. Cycling definitely the best way to see the wonderful countryside with scenic and mostly low traffic routes selected (except Saigon where the motor bike tours were the way to go). The distances were very manageable with regular breaks.

Hi We had a fantastic trip around the Mekong Delta. An excellent and very knowledgeable Guide who also spoke excellent English. It was an interesting program, with good food and hotels and a great way to see a part of Vietnam off the beaten track. The village footpaths are busy though, so be prepared to share with many motorbikes in the countryside. A very enjoyable experience overall.

Cycled from Mandalay to Bagan, and then from Bagan to Salay and back. These are two separate trips we did as one. It was wonderful. I cannot recommend it enough, as a way of experiencing Myanmar. We rode through towns villages to temples and monuments, ate the local food, smelled the smells, enjoyed the endless Mingalaba's and interactions with local people. We were guided and looked after by an utterly charming young man named YeYe, who looked after our every need, and whim, mind you. He together with our back up driver, Thun, really made the trip very special for us. A huge THANK YOU to them both. The evening stay overs were all well chosen and lovely. It was a truely wonderful holiday. Thank you so much YeYe, Thun and Grasshopper. We will be back.

I have used Grasshopper for a number of day tours in the past but this was my 1st multi day tour. I have been on and enjoyed multi day tours in SE Asia with other companies but happily admit the professionalism, quality of accomodation and food puts Grasshopper a step above the competition

Oh my... Words are not enough. Our family of eleven, Six adults & five children, youngest being six, had an amazing time. The biking along the South Eastern coast of Thailand was lovely & easy enough for the children. Guides Tick & Woody were exceptional, & took the time to explain the culture of Thailand to them. The food was just incredible. We often thought it could have been a food tour just as much as a cycling tour. The planning was exceptional. We didn't need to worry about a thing. The bikes were great (incl. e bikes & a Tag-along). The choice of Hotels & Resorts, excellent, with fabulous pools at each location, the children were totally absorbed by the whole experience. Thank-you so much. Team Grasshopper Adventures. you are 'The Best'. So nice to meet with Tammie again in Bangkok after our last tour 4 years ago. We came back.....
