“Comments - the bench saw shown is movable and can be plugged and unplugged but was shown as an example of not portable equipment. The laptop shown was not connected to its charger, and was therefore not portable equipment, but was identified as such (the charger is the item which needs PAT testing, not the laptop). Two photographs (I am a photographer and have done such illustrative work many times) show people using machine tools, one drill and one sander or grinder, with long hair not tied back and bonneted (my brother lost a chunk of his scalp to a pillar drill in the 1960s because of this) but general workplace safety was being advised on. I think the stock photos chosen should show full compliance, and these apprentices or staff would not be allowed to have uncovered very long hair despite wearing eye, ear, breathing protection. However I know this kind of resource relies on stock photo libraries and often pictures taken in real conditions, for annual reports etc, just can't be obtained. The only one which led to me entering wrong answer was the bench saw. My bench saw in the past may have been huge and three phase but it was still a portable appliance. Otherwise, a very quick and informative short course and I have made valuable notes to help both my business and compliance in my AirBnBs at home.”
